I know people who work in the healthcare insurance industry and won't vote democrat because if democrats gain to much power everyone in the industry will be out of a job, since democrats are trying to order them to shut down. Personally I think it is selfish, caring more about your jobs, than other people. We need Universal Healthcare, and voting against it to protect one self is evil.

That is quite possibly the most ignorant political statement I've heard in a while.

Well, I think many people vote for their self-interest. Not sure if it really "selfish", or just rational behavior at some level.

I know many people who vote for the Dems for the same reason (they provide medical equipment for medicare/medicare patients). They fear the Repubs will cut back.

It is true, democrats in California voted unanimously to do the right thing and order all medical insurance companies to stop operations in California. This was to set up a state run healthcare system. But Arnold vetoed it.

Even communist cuba somehow manages to provide reasonable healthcare, so I don't quite follow your logic.

It's wrong for anyone to feel pressured to vote in *any* way contrary to one's beliefs. If you are not voting with your conscience, you may as well hand over your freedom and rights. It's even more wrong for those in power to propagandize the public into believing that any party has the power to strip Americans of their jobs, health and safety.

With that said, anyone that says "Vote this way or that because of ____ issue" is just trying to manipulate a vote in their favor or for their pet issue. It's foolish to believe tripe like that. What's the issue going to be tomorrow that will "destroy our jobs" - investigation into government corruption maybe? Or how about because of illegal immigrants? Maybe because there are "too many women in the workplace"? Maybe because "Fords are bad, but Chevy Trucks are good"? "MacDonald's is better than Burger King"?

It's not really any different than a teacher or labor union endorcing a candidate when you think about it...

...it's just the one person you know making a decision that best for him/her instead of a whole group leadership deciding what they think is best for the constituancy.

OK let's assume your logic is correct.

Auto Unions overwhelmingly vote democrat to protect their jobs, since lower prices that would benefit the consumer as a whole would cause them to lose their job. Such an evil thing.

WOW, it was all over the news last year.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/09/05/state/n130430D47.DTL

The bill would provide every California resident with health insurance through a system controlled by a new entity called the California Health Insurance Agency. It would be under the control of a health insurance commissioner appointed by the governor.

Meaning every Californian would belong to this sytem. It would also order private insurance companies to shut down. It was vetoed though.

There has been a lot of concern trolling -period- lately, and not just here on AT. Seems like it's profitable for someone to keep the public concerned.

Unions are different. They vote based on noble social issues. Voting based on the issue of Universal healthcare though is selfish and disturbing.

This isn't trolling, I already posted a link to the article, about the bill. We need Democrats to win full control, because we need this to happen. A 1 tier single payer system is what this country needs for health care. Billions of money is wasted by inefficient private insurance companies, as well as countless are dying due to lack of medical insurance.

If I was a healthcare worker charging $1000 for a bag of water, I'd be voting to protect my little racket too.

Healthcare workers support this, but health insurance workers don't.

Nurses and doctors stand behind a 1 tier single payer Universal Healthcare.

Probably because insurance companies are the ones that get most of the cash, while healthcare workers are left cleaning up the mess.

Hold up, Sparky. In general, healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, allied health) support the basic principle of a universal healthcare system. But our support is roughly comparable to general opinions on 2008.

Do you want a Republican or Democrat to become President? Democrat wins.

Do you want Clinton? Nope
Do you want Obama? Nope
Do you want Edwards? Nope
Do you want Richardson? Who?
Do you want Kucinich? God bless you.

We need a 1 tier government run system and any doctor against it, is shamefull and shouldn't practice. He is allowing greed to kill his patients.

So did you find that little gem in the GOP party platform or are you bored and just trolling?

I know Republicans who are for universal helath care and a lot more who think our healthcare system is in dire need of changes.
