Is LinkedIn the best place to find new tech jobs?

Everyone I know seems to update their LinkedIn constantly and send me job posts from there, but I was wondering if that's not the best place. Is Dice still relevant?

I am not a fan at all of dice or indeed when it comes to job hunting. Both of those sites IMO just have awful formats.

LinkedIn is good if you are connected to recruiters. A lot of recruiters I'm connected to are constantly posting jobs.

Glassdoor also has a decent job search engine, and you can do the company research while on there too.

For developer/engineer jobs, StackOverflow is a great resource too.

It is good for networking with recruiters and tech firms also recruit via linkedin. Including linkedin themselves.

I do not think LinkedIn has value, particularly because you have to pay to get access to available jobs.

The best alternative is Upwork, if you ask me. Good thing you can even get hired locally by a client, or land a long-term contract without ever bribing Upwork to get the job.

Don't waste your time with LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is good as a safety net if it comes to that IMHO. When everyone does something you become lost in the herd mentality. With most everybody having a LinkedIn profile the searches can become very long.

So... useful yes, bet you're career on? No.

You have too pay? I have received recruitment inmails from amazon, linkedin and palantir. So has a buddy of mine and my current tech lead has received them from google admittedly they are invitations to apply rather than head hunting and their application process is tough. Especially if you have been out of university for years (computer science fundamentals). Also I am fairly sure they do something akin to a keyword search based on experience and degree(s).

I am contacted by local recruiters all of the time with contracts I might like to apply for. I think it might come down to what experience and qualifications you have and whether those things can get you a job or not. So I keep my profile up to date.

You have to remember that with recruiters they only get paid if they can place their candidate. So they don't waste their time on people that don't have a chance of getting the role/contract.

Yes, I mean exactly what I said.

But things might have changed along the way, especially after acquisition of the company by Microsoft.

Glad you were contacted.

A few months ago, someone who was actively looking around and wanting to send out as many applications as possible to potential employers wouldn't. It was highly unlikely that they'd get a free pass.

At the end of the day, though, it all depends on what platform you believe would work best. There is absolutely no wrong or right answer.
