I wouldn't say that's necessarily true. The latest ATI cards are very nice. I prefer the flexibility of Matrox's drivers though. More usable settings than ATI (although my ATI drivers are ultra stable even if they aren't as flexible). Can't say the same about nVidia though - too much variability in image quality, since they don't make their own cards.
