Is MS Vista such a huge turn off that people (me) should consider Apples?

3. Security (granted, this is because the user base is much larger than any other OS, but that still means it's got the biggest target on its back)

I should say that I'm not a "hater". I've been 100% MS since DOS 3.0 and liked every minute of it. I'm just saying there are alternatives (and good alternatives to boot) and with this launch of Vista, doesn't it behoove a savy computer user to look at ones options (much like reviewing car insurance and 401k every year).

On point 2, so. You will pay more than that in extra costs for hardware and devices because of the monopoly Apple has.

On point 3, it is just hype. Hackers have more fun hacking Linux and Winders because they have one they can test on or know where they can find one to test on. And as a group (speculating), Linux owners are a bit more savvy with the OS, so are harded to hack because of patch levels. Script Kiddie tools are mostly for Windows anyway.

I have always wondered why there was never an AOL version for Macs. They so belonged together.

If you know what you are doing with Windows XP you can secure it pretty well.

Been running Vista since Beta 1, now using RTM. I can't really say I am all that impressed. Just a beefed up XP in my eyes. Maybe that is why I run it on my laptop. I probably will wait til SP1 comes out to put it on my desktop. Seems like a major resource hog.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 2 turnoffs yet (these exist with XP too, which has gotten me thinking about switching to linux for a while now)

1) Product Activation- I generally avoid any software that has it and go with something that doesn't

2) REactivation - you download updates and such, b/c of imperfections in the system MS decides you aren't genuine even if you are
