Is my board dead

I have a AMD 3000 chip in a Gigabyte board. We had a storm and the lights flashed and the following morning my computer would only turn on to power the disk drives. It will not boot and you don't even get a beep sound and not allowed to get to the bios. It just sits on the black screen. You can hear the fan running and my dvd drives powers up.

Would clearing the CMOS help or is it most likely the board is dead. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it was connect to a surge protector.

Was your computer connected to a surge protector? If you did get hit by lightning without proper protection, you might've lost more than just your motherboard. But it definitely sounds like at least one major component is shot.

If it's not posting you probably have a serious problem. If you have access to other components you can swap them out with your stuff until you figure out what is broken.

i have the same problem, except after SOMETHING in my computer burnt out (i heard it, and smelt it )

trying to boot without the cpu, does your motherboard give an error?

mine does, but im still to figure out what the problem is...

try another PSU if possible.

I've seen that kind of thing blow an optical drive and cause a no boot with the drive connected. Have also seen it do the same with a modem.
