I think my motherboard and processor are both dead. Here's the story
My computer started freezing all the time...it became more and more frequent over a 2 week period. Finally one day, the PC starting rebooting randomly....3-4 times a day...until one day it would stay on maybe 30 sec's before rebooting. When I tried to reinstall Windows XP, it would get as far as the reboot after putting the setup files on the hard-drive, then go to a black screen.
What I have done for testing
Replaced with new 350 watt power supply
put my 2 harddrives (a 80 and 30 gig) in another PC and loaded OS's on them fine
changed ram around (i have a 256MB, a 128MB and a 64MB piece, tried combo's of them all)
Checked to see if any capicitors were standing diagnoly
Placed my fathers XP 1700+ processor on my motherboard, would not boot
Placed my processor into dads machine, IT WOULD BOOT**
**Placed my processor back on my machine....fastened HSF down, and tried booting.....black screen....then the computer shut off and I smelt a faint burning smell. I think I fried my processor on my motherboard while testing. The HSF was clamped down fine though it seemed. When i took the processor out, it didnt seem to be hot. I took the processor, put it back in dads machine ..and it would not boot. random white letters were on the screen. I was pissed off because my attentions were to just buy a ECS K7S5A pro board so I could continue using my processor and ram. (i had decided it was my motherboard). Now I need a new processor and ram besides!
Anyways I am a university student, paying rent and student loans, car, insurance and gas. It gets some expensive for somebody with a very limited income and no help from parents. Is there anything else it could be?
I wouldnt think it would be my video card or network card. My mobo that i think fried was a ECS K7VZA KT133a.

The machine worked great for everything I wanted to do. I don't game anymore since I dont have the time...it's been a couple years. This PC is 3 years old. It ran Office, MSN Messenger, Internet, Email and music/dvd's just great.
Any suggestions?
