Is my CPU too HOT?

I just built my Athlon 1.4 Ghz and Soyo Dragon Mobo system with a GF3 and 512 MB of DDR. My CPU temp is 57 and ambient temp is 36 (for the case). Both are in celcius. Am I frying my Processor? This is under heavy load (Genome@home running).

Thanks, I appreciate your input.

Also, If anyone can recommend a good heatsink/fan combination better than the Retail fan/heatsink, let me know.

57 at full load won't fry your cpu but it is a little warm.

I have a AMD 1.4 in one of my computers that never gets above 44C but I have good air circulation in my case.

Antec SX-1030B is my case and it has 2 fans blowing out in the back and 2 that blow in from the front.

Of the two you have blowing in....One is right in front below the HD and Floppy cage but where do you have the other one? I have a two fans blowing out the back and one blowing in from underneath the cage. I have one more fan I would like to install where the hell do I put it?

Shouldn't I have it blowing in? I will only have one fan blowing in and 3 blowing air out. Will that be ok??

You are fine. I notice that the Soyo Dragon thermal probe is more accurate than other I;ve seen. All the systems I;ve built using the retail heatsink and 1.4Ghz Tbirds on the Soyo mobo read in the same general area. All thermal probes are not created equal so it is hard to compare the termperature of the CPU from different or even the same mobo with a different BIOS revision.

Just make sure there is balanced airflow. The lower fans should draw cool air in and the upper fans should exhaust how air out.

In the SX1030/40 cases you can mount a fan inside the bottom hard drive cage at the front blowing in. It keeps my hard drives cool. Of course, you have to mount your hard drives sticking further out of the cage, but that's OK. There's plenty of room.

Take a look here and note number 24 the hard drive fan cage:

And see a pic of it here: link

Yep

Oh yea I forgot

I also have a 2 fan powersupply.

The fan is right over top the cpu blowing out of the case.
