is my delta fan supposed to blow air away from the cpu??

What heatsink are you using? On ones with a shroud such as an Alpha or HedgeHog, I have found it best to have the fan pull air away (suck) from the HS, not blow against it. In fact, even with the non-shrouded MC-462 that I use, I have the 80mm Delta pulling air away from it since I have an Enermax power supply that has one of the the bottom exhaust fans above the Delta, and pulls the exhausted air out through the PS.

Yeah thats what I do on my Thermoengine (I think...). Well, teh Delta fan is oriented so that the label is facing up

Wouldnt the label be facing down then? I thought the label is facing the direction of air current...At least on my delta it is...

Damn, its supposed to blow air into it?? I think mine is backwards then, b/c the label is up, and it is blowing up, away from the CPU.

Hi there,

A while ago I posted a thread with the title "Thermoengine with a skirt"

On that threat says

"I've cut a strip of paper with 280x37mm and put it all around the Thermoengine. Then I put the Delta fan sucking, instead of blowing.

The result: for a room temp of 25C, I'm having 27C inside the case and 47C for the CPU. Please note that before I had the CPU at 53C (both temps were taken will full load). The CPU is a TBIRD at 1450Mhz (10x145) and 1,85Volt."

Due to the design of the thermoengine it works quite well with the air being sucked instead of blowed. Also, as you know, hot air goes up. So instead of going againsn't Mother Nature, you can help the hot air going up and not pushing it againsn't the CPU.

Try it and then tell us if it worked for you.

speaking of sucking, yesterday i was looking at 60-80mm fan adapters, and was going to get one before i read that they didn't really cool any better (that was w/ the fan blowing, and the backpressure makes sense)... but i was wondering if results would be better w/ a sucking fan (no backpressure?)?

I have a 60-80mm adapter that works very well pulling air through (sucking) on the shrouded heatsinks (Alpha 6035 & HedgeHog) that I have. With the Panaflo 80mm FBL series fan, I get very good temps that are very close to the loud 60mm Delta Black Label, but much, much, more quiet.
