I have a GeForce4 4200 video card and I think it may be bad. All of a sudden while playing 3D games, the screen goes blank and my monitor appears to go into sleep mode with the moniter power light blinking. I tried rebooting my computer but now I get no picture at all, not even the bios post message. My monitor says that it is good and to check the video cables or computer because it is not getting a video signal. I replaced this card with an old Geforce 256 and the computer boots normally now and I get a normal picture. Is my new video card bad and how can I test it? Thanks

it happens when the AGP is not properly inserted in the slot or some how its moved a little fron the slot. please try again to insert the agp properly.
if u have a dust problem u can just wipe the inserting point of the card with a dry soft cloth to make sure there is no dust.

I've been through about 3 power supplies in 2 years, is this normal? I guess I could check the power supply but why would it cause one video card to work and not another?

You shouldnt be going through power supplies like that. Are you buying good ones? Remember the heavier the better. I've had the same 300W PS for about 2 years now and I just replaced it cuz I wanted to. The 250W i used to have is still trucking along in my other computer. The 250 was a cheapo too and that thing is almost 3 years old. My current PS(the 300W) is an Antec and if you get a new PS I would recommend Antec.

I had this with my GF4, on a K7S5A. There were also lots of stability problems, with the config not changing at all, or the system even being touched.

I took it apart to clean it up (it was getting dusty), and the ATX power connectors were brown on about 3 of the pins.

The PSU had obviously gone weird, and was causing sparks.

That was an Enermax 350W, top of the line at the time of purchase. I have since replaced the PSU, and it's fine
