Is my hard drive gonna DIE?

Hey mates,

I have an IBM 60GXP 40gb HD in my machine. Sometimes when the hard drive "seeks" then instead of the normal low noise *click* it makes then it makes a louder, more noticeable click. This has been happening since one month after my purchase of the HD, back in May.
Is my HD slowly dying? I ran IBM's DFT and everything is OK supposedly...

Anyone else had this problem/feature?

I have an IBM, but it has never made noises like that, but I did have an old quatum that would make a loud click like it was parking the heads every once in a while. It did this for several months and then just quit. I would start backing stuff up now.

I wouldn't worry too much, but if you have important information on that HDD then it is worth backing up just to be safe. Sometimes harddrives start making slightly different noises as you fill them up more. Mine was getting a little bit louder for a bit, but then I put all of my brothers GB's worth of skate videos on CD. Then I defragmented. Now it sounds like it used to.

Look like a heavily fragmented HDD. Try defrag it. The sound should be quieter now.

You should always back up your hard drive just in case of failure.........
