Is my HD dead?? plz help

For some reason my slave hd suddenly stop working.
I rebooted and i can hear the slave drive spinning , but its not detected in bios.
Its also making very loud noises.
I try installing it as the primary drive in the secondary channel , but it still doesn't work.
Luckily my OS isn't on that hd , but some files i need is on there.

Is there neway to recover those files??

Your hard drive is defective and failing. If you need the files off it, try freezing it for an hour or two, it may work long enough for you to copy the files off it. You can try rapping or hitting it as well, or positioning it vertically or upside down.

Sure sign your drive is failing , not even worth trying a diagnostic utility on it .

Only thing to do next is to RMA the drive if it is still in warranty , you can check that Here

There are places that will recover the data off of it for you, but are quite expensive, so unless its really important, you're out of luck. Hopefully its still under warranty so you can get another.

when a hd goes bad ...
and you need to recover the data from it...
it's just a lotta headache.

if you follow earthman's suggestion of freezing it...
you will have condensation affect on your hd.
mixing water with hd is never a good thing.

but if nothing else works... you might want to give that a go.

afterwards, however, don't expect to keep it.
