Is my HDD about to die?

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I put my computer on standby before I went to bed, no problems. I woke up, woke the computer and it took forever to get back to the desktop. I was getting error messages and aero was totally disabled.

At first, I thought it was Symantec Endpoint Protection, because I had just installed it yesterday and before that I had no problems at all. So I ran a system restore, and didn't fix the problem. Rebooting takes 15-20 minutes or more. I tried to run startup repair and that didn't help.

I decided to run HD Tune Pro to see if I got error messages and I did. Can anyone decipher this for me? Is my HDD's death imminent? What can I do about this if anything? Screenshot is below.

That's a lot of damaged areas shown by HDTune. I don't own a single disk that shows any damaged areas in HDTune, so it's certainly not normal.

The Reallocated Sector count (1) isn't horrible by itself. And the Current Pending Sector warnings don't NECESSARILY mean anything awful. But taken together....I'd get another disk. I wouldn't use the disk myself.

You can still use that as your backup HDD. Buy a new one for the OS.
Well, maybe if you have multiple backup disks. But you don't know when the disk, which is already showing signs of failure, is going to crash. Nothing worse than losing your main data storage and finding that your backups are bad, too.

You can use it as your backup HDD. Copy your files to that damaged HDD, remove the HDD after backing up and store it in your cabinet. Soon when you need those files, there you have it in your backup HDD.

Disks are cheap, data is expensive.

I would replace the disk.
First thing you do when you suspect a HD is having issues is back up any data you'd hate to lose. In fact, you should do this regularly because you can't trust any HD not to die in the next 5 minutes. :awe:
