i was encoding a DVD and i decided to check on taskmanager to see how it was going since this is my newly built system, to my surprise there is only one graph is CPU Usage and CPU Usage History, when i go to device manager under processors it list 2 2.4 processors, like i said this is a newly built system its a Abit IC7-G board is taskmanger wrong?

What you see may be correct.

In task manager there should be ONE graph for CPU usage. For CPU history there should be TWO graphs, one next to the other.

BTW encoding a dvd may not be something that uses hyperthreading. Hyperthreading is like having two cpus. Most programs use only a single "thread" for there information and hence only use one cpu (For example, a program they send info to the cpu, wait for it to be processed, send more info to the cpu). With a program that supports cpus it will send information to more then one cpu at a time (Example. Programs sends info to CPU1, does not wait and Sends info to CPU2, gets info from CPU1 sends more info to CPU1, Gets info from CPU2, Sends more info to CPU2).

You have to reinstall Windows for it to install the HyperThreading component for HyperThreading to work properly. No matter what you have in the BIOS. And you'll also need Windows XP or 2003.

Reinstalling Windows may or may not enable HT. To make sure HT will be enabled, during Windows setup (boot from CD, don't install from Windows), when it says "Hit F5 to install a 3rd party RAID or SCSI driver" (or something like that), hit F6, wait a bit, and then select Multiprocessor ACPI PC.

I have a p4 HT running but I didn't do anything when I installed my Windows XP, the task manager shows two graphs all right, so does that mean I'm running on HT ? or do I need to install Windows and reselect that multiprocessor thingie ?

Congratulations! Just a heads up if you have 256MB or less of memory but HT takes up more memory then a Non-HT Processor.

Nice. For some reason I didn't have to reinstall Windows when I went from a 2.4B to a 2.4C to get hyperthreading... It just said "detected new hardware" and installed the software automatically.

Did you have Windows XP SP1 installed? Perhaps that is needed to auto-update to hyperthreading when you switch CPU's.
