Yes check your bios my P6T Deluxe V2 has an option disable cores.

Ru-ro. And I didn't kill them with the OC, it's had 2 cores the whole time (which I was curious about). I'll go mess with it. Pretty sure this is because I haven't updated BIOS yet, it has all cores enabled in the menu. Plus I got a 40k CPU score in 3dmark vantage, so I'm pretty sure all 4 cores are working.

EDIT: Taskmanager also shows 4 cores, and for the guy who asked, load temps never got over 60 degrees.

Shouldnt it show 8 since you have HT on?

Just making sure, this is what taskmanager should look like. CPUZ can have a lot of issues, note multiplier in the following screenshot.

Oh crap...

Task manager is only showing four of those columns (which I thought were cores).

Ugh, I want to update BIOS really badly now, but I don't trust the windows application thing ASUS uses. Stupid EZ Flash

But, I couldn't score 40k CPU score in 3dmark vantage without two cores, right? Right?!

How did you bring up that processor affinity window?

Go to processes->right click any process->set affinity

What doesn't make sense though is that the p6t series only supports the i7 and Xeon equivalents so its not like your running some just released processor or anything.
Ive never updated a bios, but that is likely the problem so I would try that next. Goodluck

Ok, I'm definitely concerned now...

Updated the BIOS, CPUz still showing 2 cores/4 threads, and task manager still showing only two cores. The only thing that seems to have more is device manager, which has 8 i7 920 icons. Any other ideas?

Does it say the same at stock speeds? Did you install your motherboard chipset drivers?

Ok guys, get ready to laugh at my expense.

Went into msconfig, unchecked the "boot with x cores" box, re-booted, and now everything is showing 4 cores/8 threads. Hurffffffffffffff.

I wonder if my 4GHz OC will still work on 1.25v?

EDIT: It does

So back to the original line of questioning...

Is my i7 a mutant?

Again, I don't know if it's P95 stable yet, but it booted at 1.25v, which seems kind of crazy to me.

My watercooling loop is in my signature, but with a heatkiller 3.0 waterblock. Arctic Silver 5 Thermal paste.

That's not crazy at all with watercooling. Mine does 4.2 with high-end air (though I am at more like 1.35v).

I'm wondering whether I should go for 4.5Ghz...

This is so much easier than my Q6600...

It is easier to OC than a Q6600, but 4.5 is very hard to get. First test your configuration with LinX and see if you are stable or not using maximum memory for the test. Then start working your way up.

I was being a bit facetious, but yeah, I'm going to try and inch it up a tad. I would love a stable 4.2Ghz

Cmon you don't have far to go to join the 4.2GHz club now. Make sure you get the latest version of OCCT for your prime testing, it has linpack built in as well so you can use both

yea heres a screeny of mine @ 4.1ghz this is what its suppose to look like

+/- .5 DRam vs Vcore rule!

Your @ .4 right now.
With Vdroop you will go past the .5!

Either Lower the ram, or UP your vcore unless you want to wear out that cpu faster then you should.

OP WTF happened to your 2 cores?
Id be worried if you cant get them back.
