I think my Linksys BEFSR41 router is malfunctioning. Initially when the lights turn red I can reset the router. The other day the red light was blinking again but this time I can't reset the router.
Can you ping the router at all? Does this router have a NULL modem connection? If so, see if you can connect through that. Also, does Linksys provide a remote firmware utility for it? You might want to try that as well.
The hard reset didn't stop the blinking red light. I was about to get a new router when I decided to do a last-ditch effort in troubleshooting this router. I gave in and decided to follow Linksys' suggestion word for word and assigned a static IP to my computer. Once I did that I was miraculously able to ping the router and re-update the firmware. The blinking red light finally disappeared. I wonder if this fix is temporary. I'm at least partially happy that I don't have to buy a new router just yet.
If I remember correctly, Linksys does do the firmware with remote software. But if you can't Ping it, then you can't update the firmware I don't think...
