Is my Mobo dead? Is it my CPU? System won't boot.

I'll try to describe the problem as best I can.

I built the system (my first) about 10 months ago:
X2 4200, DFI Infinity NF UltraII, 2GB RAM, DVD burner, 2 HDDs, X850XT and HD Wonder tuner card, all in a Sonata II.

About a month back, the PSU died. System would not start, power LED on mobo would not go on. So I finally got around to replacing it (using laptop in meantime) with a new, stronger PSU.

Everything's connected, and I push the start button. CPU, Mobo, video card and case fan all spin. Hard drives are also spinning. But the system never goes through its series of clicks and beeps and begins to boot. Just fans spinning. Doesn't even go to BIOS.

What would cause this? I'm a newb in diagnosing problems. Would it be a bad mobo? Or is my primary HD drive toast. Or could it be something very simple that I just wouldn't know about??

I'd appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem with a new build and in the process of trying to diagnosis the problem by researching on the net, I came across a few things that you can check.

1) Make sure your power supply is set to the proper voltage. There is probably a switch. You know how the UK uses 220V and we use 115V or whatever, there's a switch on many power supplies. If you have it set wrong, the system could be shutting down to protect itself.

2) Make sure you've got everything plugged in. The power connections, and the CPU fan plug (a common mistake is forgetting one of these).

Unplug everything you don't need and then try it.

It could be your memory gone bad too, maybe try removing one memory (remove one memory, try it, then switch them to the other single memory and try again, try switching the memory slots you use).

The problem you have is that it might not be the power supply, your motherboard or processor or some other component could have failed. Maybe you thought the power suply was bad, but now that you have replaced it, you've got a similar problem. The new power supply could be behaving slightly differently than the old one, but still responding to the same problem with your other components. Or your old power supply could have fried your motherboard when it went tits up.

Look at the caps on the motherboard, look for burn marks, or mishapened caps, or crushed tops or otherwise damaged caps.

Hope you can solve the problem. It could be something simple with installing the new power supply, or one of your other components went bad.

Make sure that you've connected the 4-pin CPU Power connector to the MB, re-seat it if necessary, and check all the other connections, including the Video Card Power.

Then reset the CMOS, go into BIOS, Load Setup Defaults, Save and Exit.

Enter BIOS again, set all the values properly, Save and Exit.

See if that works. Good luck!

Sounds like your memory maybe your PSU took it out with it? If you're sure everything is connected try playing around with your memory 1 stick in / 1 stick out see if it will post, if not try to find just another one to see if you can get it to post.
