Well, the computer is up and running again.

I vacuumed the dust from the case and reinserted everything. I did decide to flip the power switch led switch speaker pin reset pin, etc. Before. Letting was facing down. Now up.

Well, the computer is not working again.

It seems that the computer will work after I reseat everything.

But if I leave it alone and it goes to sleep suddenly it will not want to wake up.

I tried the "manual start" and it did not work.

Are there just a few stand offs installed in the case or standoffs in every spot you're putting screws in.

Dumb question maybe, but had to ask.

its not getting stuck in sleep and tricking yout that it is off?

when it doesnt work what happens if you unplug it from the wall, turn it on with it unpluged to discharge the stored energy(nay leds or fans should momentarly become live(partial spin, light up then discharge), wait a few seconds plug it in and boot?

other than that and checking everyhting is seated correctly

I would switch the PSU to see if it makes a difference

did you try it barebones outside the case? did you run multiple; boot, sleep, wake, off & boot cycles?

Well, some of the standoffs do appear stripped...

I think I need to get a new case.

It might be stuck in sleep. I will try a bios update next chance I get.

Does it do this every time it goes to sleep?

If so, your power supply might not have Haswell support.

Well, he doesn't have a Haswell.

Changing the Windows Power Options power plan to High Performance would help determine if sleep states are the problem. Then the motherboard sleep settings could be gone after if it turns out to be the case, but guiding someone through that on the internet is about as fun as a root canal.

It's back up again.

I think it's a sleep thing. It seems to happen when it goes to sleep on its own.

I disabled hybrid sleep.

I'll see...

what is weird to me is that it becomes completely unresponsive even after I unplug everything and leave it sitting.

Have you tried removing and replacing the CMOS battery while the PC is unplugged when this occurs?

Have you tried (or bought) another case? You could also try just putting the board on top of an ant-static bag.

Also, sorry about the CPU confusion. It was right there in the OP too!

Have removed the CMOS battery.

Recently reseated everything and...still dead.

Yeah, I"m at a loss at what is going on. At this point I"m considering just selling everything except for the hard drives.

Unless you have a spare PSU, or another board, it will be difficult to determine the problem.

did the set up on a antistatic bag + screwdriver thing.

Powered on, briefly.

I think first step then is replacing the case...

No, not really.

It is working again.

I have disabled sleep. That seems to be causing problems.

New problem:

upon reboot, fans are spinning at full blast for about ten seconds.

Then it stops.

No video signal.

Then they turn back on for 10 seconds.

Then it stops.

on and on, an infinite loop.

Is this sign of progressive decay?

The motherboard was RMA'd and I'm running the replacement. Same case and PSU.

Looks like it was the motherboard.

Weird. It seems like I always run into problems whenever I transport my computer (problem first popped up when I moved computer to a different room).
