Is my motherboard dead?

last night we had a thunderstorm arround my area, so , I unplugged the pc and after the storm I Plugged back, well, when I plugged back I heard a tickling noice and it smell like somthing was burning (I did not see any smoke/fire arround the pc) so, I tought my psu was dead, my surprise was that when i plugged another psu the mobo LED was turning on and off on and off, so, I take my good old seasonic to check it on another pc, well.. it turned on... weird... so i plugged back on my asus and the same led started going on and off on and off..

I read on the manual and there is nothing about the led... any help??? is my mobo dead? damn, just when I finally got Crysis.... wtf??? ......oh well life its life...

the boards dead, and probably the processor, ram, video card, and hdd.

uh? I really hope you are jocking..... that would be really bad at this moment, the ram is ok, Iam using them right now on another rig, what a nightmare

well, usually when the board goe it take or damages the components attached to it. the ram may be working but I would not trust it to last for very long.

in 25 years I have seen over 100 systems take power hits and the parts are either DOA or die soon after.

If I read you correctly, you did NOT have the PC plugged in when the storm was going on, right? Then, AFTER the storm, you plugged the power back in, right? So it doesn't sound like you could have taken a hit... Possible you may have fried something from a latent capacitor voltage discharge, but then again you may be OK on some of your components. I would call ASUS tech support and talk to them, give them the specifics and see what they say about it. The LED is probably trying to tell you something - and the manual should explain the LED signals - check the appendixes.

Have you tried resetting the board by removing the battery and then replacing it a few minutes later? And also clearing the BIOS using the clearance jumpers? If not read the manual on clearing the BIOS and try that, see what happens. I'd say, don't write it all off just yet.

I see you had an extra PSU - do you have access to another computer? If you do, try your HDD, RAM, etc on it, one component at a time. If any of the components are dead, you'll find it out that way...

Thanks for all the help, it is welcome, and indeed I did not have the PC plugged when the storm was going on, after I plugged in the nightmare started. I reseted the motherboard by both replacing the battery and clearing the BIOS jumpers, after that I was still getting the blinking LED, i found nothing in the users manual nor on asus web page, I tested every component and was fine including the CPU. The only faulty hardware is the motherboard with its blinking LED. The pc doesn't do a thing, no fans, no power.

Well, then, obviously, your mobo is dead. You might want to call ASUS or look into RMA'ing it.

if it's under warranty, if not, look for a replacement, and be aware you may have to replace more than just the memory.

Just a quick thought... I have an ASUS Crosshair motherboard that acted similarly and I called ASUS Tech Support about it. Turns out there's a switch on the Crosshair that cuts out everything on the motherboard, BUT the on-board LEDs light up so you can work on the board in the dark - silly, but true. Maybe the P5WD2 has a feature something like that. Call ASUS Tech Support and ask them about that. If that's not the case, ask for an RMA, you probably have a dead board.

zetsway : unfortunately I did it and nothing.

like I stated, the boards gone, and the psu is dead if nothing will run when you turn it on.

His PSU isn't dead, he checked it on another motherboard.

it could have been, I've seen power surges do that the psu runs fine and then you turn it off it never works again. I'd go ahead an replace it sinc eit's taken a hit from a surge or spike.
