Yeah, I believe that should be plenty. The only way I would recommend anything more would be for an SLi setup, and you don't have that, so you're OK .

Cool. I didn't want to spen more money on another PSU. I will take that money and spend it on two 250GB Maxtors with 16mb cache in Raid O.

This PS has a 32A 12v line. I never see the volts drop under the norm, but is the 465 watts enough? Thanks for all your help.

I'm guessing that your setup pulls around 300W (25A) from the 12v line at max load so your PSU should be able to handle it as long as it can get rid of all the heat it generates. At 300W, assuming an efficiency of 80% (which I'd guess is higher than what it really is) then it'd have to get rid of 75W of heat, which is quite a lot. As long as you dont do something like keep your system loaded 24/7 (thus letting heat accumulate over time) then you shouldnt have any problems at all.

My CPU and 7800 are watercooled by an Extrernal Koolance EXOS-2. And the case has two 120mm fans to get the heat out the case. So the PSU should have cooler air than a system with heat inside the case from the hot CPU and video card. At least I guess. Thanks for the help.

no, i had that psu on a 6800Ultra with 2 sata drives, 2 opticals, and it could just barely handle it--plugging in any usb device in windows would "downclock the card due to a lack of power." Get a seasonic, ocz, pcp&c or the noisetaker from enermax--the 465 from enermax is not "top shelf".

Really? How do I know if this is not enough? My 12v,3v,5v lines are all above the normal even on a load.

Keep in mind the 7800GTX uses much less power than the power hungry 6800 Ultra.

I am testing one right now I built for my sons system....

powering my rig below...ran 13 hours of dual prime with 4 hours of it looping 3dmark01SE.....rails seem lower then my 600watt OCZ but the stay tigh and dont dip below 12v...3.3v seems a bit low (3.21) but I dont know if it is just what is being reported.....everything seems fine. My sons system will eventually be running 3800+ X2 but will have less drives, be moderately oc'd and less powerful vid card....

What is the best PSU out right now for my system. I am overclocked on the CPU and the 7800GTX. When I am playing BF2 for a while my system just turns off. No BSOD just off. I am starting to think that it is the PSU. I know its not the temps because they don't go over 48c - 50c on full load and the 7800GTX never goes over 50c. I was looking at the Seasonic 600 watt but I cant find it in stock anyware. What is the best out there that is not super loud. Thanks.

You have a high end system I would spen the money on quality to high end power...

Powerstream 520 OCz
Seasonic 500watt
or
PC power and Cooling 510watt

all over 100 dollars but highest quality to deliver continuous noise free power...the powerstream has adjustable pots, which I can tell you can help shore up some of the shotty motherboards and how they draw power...

Do you think the 35 to 50 watts is a big diffrence from my 465 watt with 33a 12v line PSU? I was thinking just go to the 600 watt PSU's. Is the Seasonic 600 watt PSU a really good PSU? I want one of the best, just as long it is not super loud.

Yes...it is not always about size but quality...Enermax is good but when it comes to efficiency, quality, etc enermax is more middle tier then most want to believe....

I think 600watt would be overkill now but who knows you upgrade to an SLI or something later and you will be set....I buy power supplies and they last me for several system of ocing....That is the one areas I will spend the moeny and not cut corners...

I've been wondering why a 400W or even 500W power supply is so often quoted as being needed for Athlon 64 systems. I added up all the hardware for a Athlon 64 system and it conservatively comes out around 300W. Am I missing something? Here are the power estimates I considered:

Geforce 7800GTX Card 100W (under 70W for 6800GT), Athlon64 90W, motherboard keyboard and mouse 36w, 2 Sticks of DDR Ram 14w, 2 HDD 24W, 2 optical drive 30W. 4 USB 20W, 2 PCI Cards 20W

All add up to about 335W and a more modest Athlon64 system like I use adds up to well under 300W even with a Geforce 6800 and most normal goodies. I would guess that a good quality 350W supply would be plenty for most Athlon 64 users. Could it be you need a good deal extra power than the system will actually use to keep it stable? Or maybe it's cheap supplies that need to be 500W.

Then it's something wrong with your system, or the PSU unit itself. I was using mine at one point to power 2 HDDs, 2 opticals, a DFI NF3, a 6800U, a Sempron overclocked to 2.7, 4 case fans, a Zalman CNPS 7000, and a gig of Mushkin UTT overclocked. My rails were rock solid. Sure, you can buy better ($100+), but for the price this unit rocks.

If you dont have the $100+ dollars to get a high-end/high-quality PSU, you could get this Rosewill 500W PSU. It's got a 34A 12V+ rail and is pretty stable. Have had no problems with my setup so far. It's a bit on the noisy side with the fans running at max, but you can throttle them down with the fan speed contoller on the back. At $40 bucks, it's a great buy!

Price is no problem I just want a great PSU but not loud. I will spend $200.00 to $250.00 on a PSU.

When I have it overclocked and playing a game like BF2 the computer will just shut off. I have run dual Prime95 with no problems but when on a load with the 7800GTX running hard I get the total computer shut down. Thats why I am thinking that my PSU is not enough. I think both the CPU and GPU are pulling a lot of power when on load. Its not temp because the CPU and GPU are both watercooled. I just don't know.

The crazy thing is that when I had my 4400+ X2 with the same card and same PSU I also had the same problem with the system just shutting off under load. I sold the whole system thinking it was an NF4 chipset problem. Too late to go back now. But I think I need a better PSU. So what is the best I can buy that is not loud?
