Is my PS enough?

I have a Seasonic S12 430 in my current system and it is more than enough(Athlon xp @2.4, 3hd incl 2 74g raptors, 9700pro, 6or7 fans, 2 media drives).

I am buying for a new build. So far I have a Q6600(will run it above default of course), 8800gt, 2x1gb DDR2, 500g HD(will likely run only one internal HD), Lian Li AO5b case. I will be ordering a MB and possibly a PS today. I would use my trusty Seasonic if it is sufficient and save me a bill or more. As said, I will likely only run a single HD, and don't plan on SLI or any thing fancy, just a slightly OC system with the above components and air cooling.

It seems to me I should be fine, this is a huge step up in performance, but also a huge step in efficiency.

VERY good PSU, but just a shade too light for that 8800GT.

I believe you will be fine. An 8800GT will probably add 30-50 more watts compared to your 9700 pro...that shouldn't tip you over any scales.

But who's to say that he wasn't already riding the edge before?

People don't seem to remember that de-rating curve and component life isn't a 45° slope. It's an exponentially downward curve. The greater the load, the greater the tempertaures, the much greater the potential for failure.

True enough, but it looks to me like the rest of his components aren't going to do a heavy load, the quad core being the main other power drain. At least for the time being it seems like it'll stay low enough below possible power curve issues with aging/heat. Of course it's possible things have been under/over estimated. Maybe OP should try and see first with a long term load test to make sure no stability issues come up.

4x4expy, your current S12 430 will adequately power (estimated <70% full load) your new components if you don't o/c.

True. Although the two Raptors also jumped out me. It's not going to hurt to at least try.

Thanks for the replies all.. I plan to try it with the Seasonic, if there are issues I will pick up something a little heftier.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 Rev. 2.0(This is the only component I don't yet have)
Q6600(will tinker to see how far it will go on stock voltage)
2gb G Skill DDR2
8800GT
Seagate 500gb
DVD-RW
Leftover Seasonic 430w
Samsung 226bw

I ordered my MB, and in the end I couldn't pass up the price on this PS. So now there shouldn't be a question as to whether I will stress a 12v rail or any other problems.
