Hi All, My Rig is behaveing very odd at the momment i overclocked my my cpu to 4.8Ghz just over a month ago i have used the pc everyday with no problems until last week where i would get a very ocasional blue screen and also game crashes so i knocked the overclock down a little and reduced the voltage to 1.29V all was then okay for a week or so then last night i started to get pixelation while playing Arma2 Dayz so i turned down the voltage to my Gpu and all now runs okay again. do you think my issues are with my psu or am i on the verge of frieing my whole system ? FYI my cpu temp never exceeded 70 degrees on any core,my case is around 23c and gpu at around 65c

Rig Specs

CPU:I5 3570k @ 4.7ghz
MOBO:Asus P8Z77-V LX
CPU Cooler:Corsair H80i (2013 edition)
GPU:Asus GTX 780 Direct cu ii OC + OCED by a further 20%
SSD:Samsung 128gb 840 pro
HDD:Western digital 1TB Black Edition
PSU:Corsair CX600
Ram:16gb corsair vengenance 1600mhz
Case:Aerocool X Warrior with 4 120mm LED Fans

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'd suggest a new PSU. The CX series isn't a great series. It's not bad, but for what you're running (And with an OC), I'd upgrade to something a bit better.

Are your room ambient temperatures higher now getting into summer than they were when you first o'c? Even if a CPU or GPU isn't technically overheating, a higher temperature can cause instability at an otherwise attainable clock speed.

Yes a higher wattage PSU could help reduce ripple, but you may be getting towards the point of diminishing returns. You might see how high you can now stably o'c, then compare that with the prior o'c to decide if it's worth the time and expense to buy a new PSU and possibly increase airflow rate.

It may not be worth it, considering the pixelation was a graphics subsystem instability and you may still be able to o'c that a little, just not the whole 20% with a voltage increase. It's a high cost to benefit ratio to buy a new (upgraded) PSU for that.

My ambient room temperture is higher but not by much!
I have ramped down my OC to 4.2Ghz and all seems to be stable again without a massive drop in fps only around 7fps playing dayz, i Turned down my graphics card OC also to around 10% and that seems happy.

If my Psu was to give up would it just give up or give out less overt ime? also if it were to just go pop would my components be at risk?

I think i would only change my psu if it would damage my other components, but with not knowing if the Psu is causing me the issues makes this a difficult and pottentionaly very exspensive desision!
HHHMMMMMM

Thanks so far Chaps.

You're obsessing over your psu when it was most likely just too high an o'c. No matter what PSU you use, one that's a little bit better and so on, will help with a little bit more o'c.

Can your PSU fail? Sure, any PSU can.

Will it damage something if/when it does? Sure, any PSU can, but that usually doesn't happen.

If you have regained stability there is no indication that the PSU needs changed.

Okay so i heard a quiet popping sort of sound when i tried to turned on today quickly followed by a hot metal kind of smell so i tore my side panel off and noticed the fan on my psu is now going around at about 6 rpm!! while everything else is off no leds on gpu etc no light on water cooler. but case fans were running slowly strange!

Safe to say its worn out and only 3 years old.

can you suggest a power supply that would run 2x asus gtx 780,and leave some headroom for OC with my current setup

Is there any software out there that lets you monitor power draw/maximum output of power supplys i mean in this day and age it seems strange that there is know early warning signs when this integreal piece of kit is about to fail and possibly ruin some exspesive hardware.
