Regular sleep patterns are much healthier. The body really does have biological clocks which prefer regularity.
Also, some semblence of a schedule is good for most people's mental health as well. Going to bed because the days is over (i.e. there's nothing left to do) and waking up when the next one begins (a reason to move) helps keep you stable. I had bad sleep habits in college, and some days couldn't concentrate in even a 10:00 class. I'm much more clear headed and focused now.
