Is my vid card good enough to run Half Life 2?

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO. I just bought half life two, and it starts up fine when I open it up. I can even get into the game. But then it will randomly minimize for no reason, and when I try to maximize it, it wont work. So what can I do to make it work?

Also, I have Windows XP Pro, and on a lot of game sI play, they will randomly minimize like this, is there something I can do to fix this? THANKS!

EDIT:And yes, my drivers are updated

The 9800 Pro is fine for HL2, may not get the highest res on the game to look good, but it will work.

I have a qustion, what happens when you try to maximize the window for your game???

The button will indent like I have maximized it, and the sounds will come up, even though sometimes the sounds are jittery, and repeating...but it wont go up.

The card runs HL2 fine. Go to options, click video tab, find display mode pulldown menu, set to full screen.

Are you saying it goes to desktop, but the game is still running in the background?

No, you cannot her the sounds when it minimizes, it just simply minimizes. It does this on other games too, but on this one I cant maximize it. Im not sure if setting to fullscreen would work, because its already in fullscreen. Sometimes I wont even m ake it to the main menu before it minimizes, and sometimes, it will be a few minutes into the game before it minimizes.

This sounds like your problem, also try to right click on the icon for HL2 on your desktop and then go to the compatibility tab, make sure there isn't a problem there.

No, when I go to that tab, it says iots already in fullscreen mode.

ANd how do I know if something is a problem in the compatability tab?

look, ignore EVERYTHING else, and remove your old drivers and put the most up to date ones in there and you will be fine.

Get a good and upgraded spyware/trojan/virus removal tool and try a full system scan. Also update your drivers...

I think you have some spyware taking over. Thats why its minimizing.
Im runing HL2 at 1280x1024 high all on a 9700 pro

HL2 tries to connect to the steam server every now and then. I just blocked it completely on the firewall
