Is my Video Card Dying? It streaks like crazy in games.

Hello Everyone,

I'm guessing my video card is dying, but I'm not sure how to figure out if it's truly the problem. My video card is a Geforce 7900 that I picked up about 3 years ago and over the last few months is started to streak like crazy in games. And now it's at the point that it's not even worth playing. However, there is no streaking when I'm in windows muddling around on the net or basic word processing.

Had the same problem with a 7900gs just over a year ago, found out it was artifacting because of the vram capaicitors overheating

had this happen right when i GOT mine, RMA and it came back worse. i would advise you to go pick up a 4870. havent had much luck with my nvidia GPU purchases sadly. the only one i have ever had actually work properly for me was my Riva TNT2. thus far my Radeon 9250 SE, my 9800 PRO, and my 2900 PRO have all worked great, but my 6600GT was kind of funky and i couldnt window games w/o my system hanging, and my 7900GT Superclocked was virtually DOA

Before you buy a new card just be sure the 7900s fan is working & that the HS isn't clogged with dust.
Can't believe you guys missed that point .

Sounds like the problem 2 of my 7900gs cards had.

Hummm, yeah, I checked that a few weeks ago and dusted it off nice and good, but I didn't see any improvement.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Now I can contact EVGA and make sure they don't try and confuse me into thinking it's the RAM or something else

The problem is with overheating V-Ram, i had a same problem with 6800 GT!!! But mine died in any case!
