Ouch that TigerDirect even has a 7.25 "lifetime rating". I'd go about 2. Also a bit surprised that Monarch is doing so well considering the amount of gripes we've heard about them in the last few months.

The bottom line is it has narrowed the gap between newegg and the competition because if the prices have gone up, reviews are now being vetted and censored more than before and customer service has gone down in quality.

I'll still shop there if I was getting a bunch of stuff but I will definitely look around. It irritates me though that big single items like CPUs and video cards aren't competitive.

Just consider this for a second: Anytime people post links to a particular product on this forum, what website do they usually point to? Newegg is the ubiquitous mega-mall of computer parts.
I think part of the reason is also that NewEgg is one of the few stores that has a rating/review system for products, and with the amount of traffic they get, there're usually a fair amount of feedback to base a purchase on. Hell, even if I find a better price elsewhere, I still might go to NewEgg to check the product's rating before placing an order at the other place.
True, but then again, have you noticed how filtered those reviews are? It's extremely rare that I ever see a negative review about anything on there, and seeing as how I'm in this business, I know for darn sure there are many people out there who are never satisified... so it's very disconcerting how biased all the reviews are. That alone made me disregard them years ago.

A non-filtered and unbiased review system would be great though.
That's why I come to AnandTech... To a certain degree, there's "safety in numbers," but I've found that anything that has 100+ reviews there, I've already heard about here, so there's not much point. Maybe it's just me, but most of the negative reviews that are let through are ones that make the reviewer look like an idiot. I know for a fact that I have written intelligent reviews with balanced positive and negative content that have just not been posted at all (one for a USB CF reader that was so shoddy in design that the CF card could not even be inserted without taking a pair of pliers to the plastic faceplate of the reader). To those who pay attention to Newegg reviews, you can trust them if you like, but it's certainly not a wise thing to do.

Newegg announced recently that they would be issuing an IPO (i.e. going public) in order to fund an ambitious plan to expand into China and elsewhere. Newegg must show potential investors that they are an attractive company to invest in, which means large profits. Newegg has revenues of $1.4 billion annually (and growing rapidly), but they have to raise their profit margins to make the most of their IPO. Newegg has an established loyal user base that took years of A+ service and rock-bottom prices to build. Now they can begin to raise prics slowly and still count on that base.

Athlon 64 4400+ = $729 + Out of stock

@Tigerdirect = $$629

Athlon 64 4000+ = $475

@ZipZoomFly = $380

Athlon 64 3500+ = $246

@ZipZoomFly = $230

Athlon 64 3700+ = $323

@ZipZoomFly = $278

Maybe Newegg just hates AMD...I don't get it.

Doesn't matter to me. Newegg is definitely the best place to go for comptuer parts, hands down.

Newegg NEVER has HOT deals, they always just have decent prices, however their service is second to none.

They are still OK in my book, speedy delivery and good customer service. Though nowadays I only order if the item I want has free shipping on say a heavy package like speakers.

I would say that it's more like lots of manufacturers have been having mail-in rebates lately. Gotta have some way to make money I guess. But I mean, if they submit the forms properly and stuff, how can Newegg just say "sorry not gonna put your rebate offer on our website"?

You do know that most bad reviews are censored and taken away and only good reviews are left posted right?

Because their reviews are to a great extent censored, use quantity of reviews to evaluate a product, not quality.

Neweggs service has gone down a bit and their prices have gone up. They are still competitive but not the great company they once were.

I think some prices for newegg are pretty decent, some are outrageously overdone, and at times, you have to consider the options of getting a decent overnight if you need a part that bad, because they have pretty good delivery service with Fedex.

Whenever possible I try to order from ZZF because of overall good prices and the free 2nd day fedex. Although I do order from newegg occasionally. Havent had a problem with either of them.

Newegg is overpricing, for whatever reason. The other companies listed, Tigerdirect and ZipZoomFly, are not bad companies either. Sure they don't have the 9.4 on ResellerRatings, but they are above-average and many people can back that up. Also, if Newegg is trying to get rid of the old processors, don't you think the other retailers would be doing the same as well?

You never can be completely sure what is driving their pricing structure. Maybe Newegg placed a 1000+ piece CPU order last month based on bad market info and the others waited. It also always takes pricing samples from 2 or 3 competitors for anyone to make this argument. Take Newegg vs. Tigerdirect or Newegg vs. ZZF pricing across the board and see if your statement still holds. It all comes down to the chicken/egg question. Are they good because they're big or are they big because they're good. It's a free market and that's what makes it great.

That makes good sense. Basic economics of supply and demand

After the messed up my past two orders (back to back as well) I no longer shop there. They used to be great and had nothing but nice things to say, but the past 3 months has been bad, even their customer service has gone down hill IMHO. Oh well.

Any idiot who doesn't shop around first, deserves to pay more, it is that simple! For example, when I shop for parts, I go to froogle and pricegrabber first, get a baseline from there, then checkout the usual suspects, i.e. Newegg, ZZF, Monarch, Mwave, SVC, Tank Guys, etc., whichever is cheaper, and has the best deal on shipping, I go with. Why? I personally have ordered from every one of these companies and haven't had a problem with them. Newegg is a bit expensive sometimes, but seem to have the largest selection of everything! ZZF has some spectacular deals, especially when you can get free shipping. Monarch also sometimes has good deals, even though I have found them a bit slower to ship sometimes. Mwave also has good prices on occasion. SVC is the place for cooling parts, I rarely shop elsewhere. Tank Guys has awesome support and even though they don't have the largest selection, they are good about finding certain items for you if they don't have them on the website.

It is all about shopping around, looking at resellerratings, and making sure you get the best price. If you don't, then you shouldn't blame Newegg, blame yourself for not looking around hard enough.

No doubt. This is a stupid thread. I always shop around first, but if a product is close in price I always go with the egg. Why? Cuz I trust them and know if I have a problem they will make it right. Get over it you hater!

Newegg is still the first place I'll place an order. Newegg ship ridiculously fast (2 days tops with regular ground shipping) Depending on where you live, Overall newegg prices still the best for IT commodity, hand down.........

When I built my rig this summer, Newegg had the best prices on EVERYTHING... I think I recall getting the X-530's for like $37 w/o shipping, and the instant rebates were pretty cool too.

it's just like all big companies.

once they got enough props, they can charge w/e they want.
it's because so many people shop there now, they feel mighty.

meanwhile, the lowly tigerdirect and zipzoomfly (though not lowly, but you know what i mean) can still charge almost factory-direct prices

Yeah, Ive noticed it too. I bought a PNY vid card from them that also had a rebate but the box came with the UPC code cut off. Whats worse is that the video card is defective so obviously they tried to sell a used card as new. But at least Im getting back a full refund.

On pricewatch Newegg is almost never the cheapest. I have had plenty of happy experiences and saved a lot of money by buying from cheaper stores on pricewatch. There are a lot of very good stores out there. I have nothing against Newegg though. I've bought a couple things from them before when they did actually have the cheaper price and the service was good.
