Is Newegg competitive anymore?

I haven't bought anything other than hard drives or baby clothes online in the last year or so ... but I was just looking around online for a webcam. Everyone seems to go with the QuickCam Pro 9000.

Are they competitive when it comes to anything these days?

They sometimes have decent sales, and usually have the best selection of video cards/motherboards/memory/CPUs. If you're shopping around, newegg is a good place to compare to, since they carry a lot of items. When it comes to popular items, though, outside of shellshockers, it probably won't be the best price, plus they gouge on shipping.

They can be at times although it is much less common than it used to be. They also carry a larger variety of parts

I might pay a couple bucks more with the egg...but they have taken care of me EVERY time I have needed anything.

They have great selection, good website, decent prices and awesome customer service.

They're competitive, but not always cheapest. For a whole order of computer parts, you'll do about as well as any other place you get a whole order from. Maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less, but you generally won't feel ripped off. If you shop per item, can can generally do better than Newegg. I like them due to the great service, and reliability. Some company's are cheap, but you pay for it with bad service.

Yeah- their shipping costs have skyrocketed - you have to watch out for free shipping items. (although 3 day shipping is a plus)

Anyone else fondly remember the days when they posts shipping prices on the main category pages? That was nice.....

sometimes it is worth not getting the "best" price when dealing with the MOST reliable company for computer parts, IMO.

my experiences buying and dealing with newegg and their CS have always, always been the best.

Competitive yes. Best price? No. They no longer have sales that are actually "sales". Their customer service, however, is top notch.

Yup and that's about the same time they stopped using Fedex saver as default which turned me off. I hate UPS.

for my pc build last month i went to newegg, but after shopping around i ended up buying everything from amazon; no tax and free shipping made it really good for me, (in california). since newegg has become so popular they arent what they used to be. mwave is still good i think for same day locals.

I loved newegg back in the day, but they opened a warehouse here and taxes + shipping = I never look at their site anymore. ZipZoomfly and Amazon are the places I shop the most.

The best shopping years from Newegg is when it first opened business. The website has quite a bit glitches. These days, It almost wiped out all the presence of mama-papa brick-mortar shops, and possibly introduced the demise of CompUSA and Circuit City.

So yes, you consumers have helped killed the competition.

Oh please, CompUSA/CC were not good enough for capitalist competition is all.

While Newegg might have taken sales away from these stores, calling egg the bad guy is same as complaining about nature of capitalism.

Their prices are still pretty good. They may not always be the cheapest, but if they're only a bit more expensive than other places I'll usually just go ahead and order from them anyway.

Also, their "sales" usually suck, but it seems like they always have some good combo deals going on.

Yea many times I'll pay more at Newegg or Amazon since they have their warehouses very close buy to where I live and get everything very quickly even with the cheapest shipping.

For a while, Newegg was the only place that sold decently priced hardware to Canada. Damn near every item on Newegg was at least 20% cheaper than any store in Canada, including online stores. I recently found a store by my house called Memory Express that often has better prices than Newegg but less selection, so now I only buy from Newegg if I want more choices.

I still price check stuff on Newegg because it has excellent sorting and search features. That whole website is a perfect model for what an online store should look like.

Yes, it really annoyed me when they started hiding the shipping costs.

I live closer enough to their NJ warehouse that any item I purchase with UPS Ground shipping gets to me the next day after I order it. That and the fact that I am so rarely disappointed with them means that they are always the first place I look for an item. There are frequently good deals on their sales ads they send out (seems to be daily now). I think I have spent over $30k at NewEgg in the past 4 years.

They are decent, but over the weekend I built a new system. I compared Newegg to my local MicroCenter and MicroCenter was about 10% cheaper, no shipping and I could have the parts that day.
