Is NewEgg still the "king"?

I haven't ordered PC parts in over 5 years. Back then NewEgg was KING. I've read some less than favorable reviews about NewEgg's customer service. Also, it looks like there are more sites (reputable ones to boot) that are offering competitive prices.

Can any pros here recommend another site or two that is comparable to NewEgg?

Yea they pretty much are. If not for buying but for basically looking up anything you want. You don't have to buy from them. Take advantage of price match policies your local stores may offer. Some even offer a extra 10% off the difference in pricing. Also makes it easy to return stuff if needed.

Their prices are good, but Not All That and A Bag of Chips anymore... shop around, but look at shipping and sales tax. If you can catch the stuff you want on sale or on one of the 'Shellshocker' deals, it's usually pretty decent.

You can find things a bit cheaper if you look around BUT..I like the fact that NE stores all the info from every order I've ever made and still displays the specs on parts that are now obsolete and no longer for sale, I like that and their website is much less cluttered than Amazon so I will continue to shop there..

Recent purchase and RMA was a breeze. I'd gladly pay a bit more for reliable service, and they deliver.

For me they have been. Since I've had my shoprunner account I've been saving shipping costs, and even though it's supposed to be 2day shipping, it usually arrives overnight.

i still use newegg whenever i can. i too like how they keep my order history and i can pull receipts years down the road with ease.

and i like shopping on their website so much that even if it does cost a few dollars more its worth it to me.. thing is, they usually do still have the best price.

I disagree, though I use Amazon for almost everything except PC parts. Those I mostly end up buying from Newegg.

Sometimes you do find a cheaper PC part but generally they are more expensive and Amazon's selection is worse. Half the motherboards I was looking at for my new system were not available or only from third-party sellers (no Prime for free 2-day shipping, iffy customer service).

The ASRock Pro3 Gen3 I ended up getting is available, but "usually ships in 3 to 5 weeks" -- no thanks.

Case selection is limited compared to Newegg.

Search can be awful at Amazon because they helpfully expand it to include a bunch of vaguely similar parts that you don't want and don't have the right set of filters like Newegg has.

the "king" has the lowest prices and has the scheet in stock. that makes microcenter the true king for things like cpus and boards. stuff like dvd and hard drives are cheap everywhere so you can get stuff like that at your local store

Just did a new build with only the exception of keyboard and mouse. Build included, psu, cpu,ram,mb,ssd, 2 hhds, win 7, cpu cooler. Bought mb, case and ram thru Amazon and the rest through Newegg. Items were cheaper at Amazon and no shipping costs on top of cheaper prices. Saved almost $50.

My thoughts exactly. Newegg usually isn't the lowest priced anymore and if they are, it isn't by much. However, the browsability of their website is amazing, and I buy from them for that reason.

Often I purchase my parts from Newegg. If you watch their sales for a while often they have something that goes on sale that becomes a good deal. So sign up for their newsletter. Then save up your computer cash and wait for just the right time. Sometimes they will have a sale on a case where they cheaper prices and free shipping. The trick is to buy it when it is on sale. I just purchased some parts. I purchased an Antec 300 Case with a 430 watt power supply for around $70. It was one of those short term sales. You just have to time it right and be flexible and dont make your buying decision based on impulse buying.

I am using a monitor that I purchased from Dell right now. Sometimes Dell will have sales on nice stuff too. Periodically they put stuff on sale. I think I paid like $99 for the Monitor. However, I purchased it about 2 years or so ago. It is a 19 inch LCD. I thought it was kind of small but when I plugged it in the monitor was of high quality and easy on the eyes. Even if it is small it is good. Yeah I wish it was a 24" monitor, but I was kind of dirt poor at the time. Lately the Dell Monitors seemed to be priced too high. Sometimes I think they look at a Monitor as a way to get the custome to pay more than they should.

I wouldn't say the 'king', more like the 'survivor', as many others have disappeared such as ZipZoomFly, MonarchPC and ClubIT, and others who never got it right such as MWave and Directron.

Amazon can come up with some very good deals these days, but I still primarily shop at Newegg due to a long term rep that has been established, but it is not as good as it was.

i always hit the egg first - most everyone is within a few bucks. Shipping costs or local tax always make the difference for me.

Another vote for 'egg because of their far superior website. Generally when I go looking for something I already have an expected price in mind so if they're close to that I don't even bother looking elsewhere... though some parts are crazy priced there like fans.

Yeah I would say well over 50% of my purchases are made at Newegg. I always comparison shop, but their website is the most user-friendly hands down.

Also, my mother and my uncle both own sales-based businesses. My mom has a retail knitting supply store, and my uncle is a wholesaler of industrial hoses and fittings. My mom occasionally has customers come into the store who will openly use her shop as a show room, ask her or her employees for advice, and then go buy at the cheapest price they can online.

So in a sense, I look at Newegg's website the same way. Keeping up a site like that takes a lot of work, and it's only fair to thank Newegg for that service with my business. Plus, their shipping is consistently fast and their return policy is friendly. Unless the pricing is vastly different, I'll go with them.

They were the pioneer in the left sided drill down which I see a lot of other sites using now..
