Lets go with Occam's razor. The most likely scenario for your sister who was there for a summer is that she got upset that American food was not served more than once at a function where they tried a different food each week. She hyped how much everyone loved "American" food without realizing that pizza is not American and put a lot of butter on her potato and got snickered at.

There's nothing really wrong with any of that. Culture shock and cultural differences are to be expected. I have a hard time each time I switch living between the USA and Sweden.

That 25% figure is just the federal government though, doesn't cover state taxes, local taxes, corporate taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, double and triple taxed items, tariffs, etc. IIRC the total tax burden in the US is around 45% too.

US GDP is $16 Trillion. 25% of that would be 4$ Trillion. Federal tax revenue for 2012 was $2.4 trillion or 15%

It is quite obvious that some of our most ardent opponents of big bad "socialism", which they quite obviously consider one in the same with communism, do not consider hard workers rewarded unless they can personally bear witness to a dirt poor underclass of the population who obviously did not make the same right choices and work as hard as they did. They are incapable of enjoying the fruits of their labor if they believe someone who worked less hard than they did gets some fruit too. They'd see 100 needy children go hungry before allowing one lazy bum to steal a free meal. It took me many years, but I finally understand what Moonbeams self hate stuff is all about, and the reflexive hatred of what has been deemed the best place in the world to live is Exhibit A of self hate.

That's ok. They have a right to their belief. I do think they are a very very small minority. And, I think most of the posters online are actually trolls who are pretending.
