Most telling:

But Republicans get their lowest grades since Obama was elected on several measures:

* Voters disapprove 64 - 25 percent of the way Republicans in Congress are doing their job, with 42 percent of Republican voters disapproving;
* Only 29 percent think Republicans on Capitol Hill are acting in good faith;
* Voters trust Obama more than Republicans 47 - 31 percent to handle health care;
* Voters 53 - 25 percent have an unfavorable opinion of the Republican Party.

Face the facts, Obama is a popular president with two major problems. (1) He was handed a country that had already gone to hell in a handbasket under the leadership of GWB&co. We can debate the wisdom of continuing the bail outs GWB started, but the outcome could have been worse. Because unemployment could have soared and the economy could have totally tanked. (2) In terms of the changes Obama wants and IMHO are needed, we can blame the GOP for totally obstructing those changes. Time will tell in two ways. (a) Obama may opt to play a stronger more dictatorial role but still seems committed to working within the system. Perhaps naively hoping the GOP will become more reasonable. (b) With the start of 2010 political primaries within sight and the general elections in less than 13 months, I have to assume, like the two election cycles before it, that the average American voter is going to take a very dim view of GOP knee jerk obstructionism, and if so, Obama's second two years will see the needed changes denied him in his first two years.

Something PJABBER and the rest of the GOP need to ponder long and hard. Because the GOP does not have a present platform and bringing back the policies of GWB is something that can not be sold to anyone with a brain in the whole wide world. The GOP has not learned a damned thing in the last five years, and I see no signs they are learning anything now. And with the GOP betting its future on pure obstructionism, they may win extinction instead.

I think overall the comedians will be gentle on Obama.

However I am personally surprised he basically let Pelosi and gang come up with a health care proposal. I think people, including myself, were expecting him to lead the charge out of the gate and iron something out. Not make a few speeches and let the whackjob from San Francisco do her worst.

Do you think Pelosi actually sits in the oval office most of the time?

She is third in the line of succession. Be worried.

Or, in line with the topic of this thread, we anticipate more punch lines to come.

On the world stage? He is a joke in some corners. I believe race has a major component.

Abroad, he's about the most popular us president, like, ever. If he's a joke, then what was.....oh forget it.

He was slapped pretty hard last week, that is for sure.

When looking abroad, it isnt how "popular" someone is. It is what they can get done.

I get the feeling Obama is seen as a nice guy, but much like here at home, ineffective.

Guess we'll have to see what 8 years of his type of diplomacy can bring rather than 8 months. You can't kill all the terrorists, you have to make people stop wanting to be terrorists. It starts with changing our image as a huge anti-islam power on a crusade for christianity around the world. Some are saying Bush was feared and it's better to be feared than liked. Fear didn't stop NK from going nuclear, it didn't prevent 9/11 or 3/11. Torture didn't prevent any attacks and only inflamed the anti-US sentiment. I'm ready to try something else.

Well seeing as how he continues to leave Guantanamo open, he continues renditions as long as they are "US supervised", he continues to bomb innocents along with the terrorists in Pakistan (against international law) , Blackwater (Xe) is still being employed by the US....

What is so different?

Face the facts, Obama wants to close GITMO, but he need the funding and approval from Congress to do so. And congress is the road block, not Obama.

But I guess that is the GOP version, when Obama acts within the constitution, he is not being assertive enough, but if he takes the law into his own hands and makes an end run around the constitution, the GOP will scream dictator.

HE'S THE FUCKING PRESIDENT :|

I'm getting so tired of the excuses. Did Dick Cheney give a shit about the constitution? Christ, he wiped his ass with it!

It might be too late now, but 3 months ago he could've absolutely banged heads together and gotten UHC done. Instead of tapdancing around all these asshat roadblock Democrats, why wasn't he hammering away on them? DEMANDING that they fall in line. That's what the people wanted.

And what the fuck is with Sotamayor? Bush appoints a couple of fascists to the SCOTUS and Obama nominates some middle of the road quasi conservative? WTF is that? I give Roe V. Wade another 8 months.

Who CARES what Republicans do or say? They have ZERO credability.

I'm sorry, I voted for the guy and even donated to his campaign, but Fuck Obama.

But among the crowds a little child suddenly gasped out, "But he hasn't got anything on." And the people began to whisper to one another what the child had said. "He hasn't got anything on." "There's a little child saying he hasn't got anything on." Till everyone was saying, "But he hasn't got anything on." The Emperor himself had the uncomfortable feeling that what they were whispering was only too true. "But I will have to go through with the procession," he said to himself.

So he drew himself up and walked boldly on holding his head higher than before, and the courtiers held on to the train that wasn't there at all.

We all have to admit, PJABBER is quite the energizer bunny, tirelessly preaching to his own choir. Which, IMHO should be the right of any poster on P&N.

But at the end of the day, the question becomes, is PJABBER expanding the size of his own choir?

Polling data suggests otherwise, but the acid test will be the mid term elections of 11/2010.

And if the GOP loses net seats in the Senate and the House in the election of 11/2010, will PJABBER finally realize the folly of his ways?

OCguy asks, "Link to your data?"

Its already posted on this thread if you read, while Obama may be losing public approval, the GOP is losing net public approval even faster.

How that will end up translating into votes come 11/2010 may be the presently unknowable question, but we still have the last two election cycles to guide us. The third time being a charm cuts both ways, maybe the GOP will gain net seats in the election of 11/2010, but if the GOP loses net seats, it could mean the extinction of the GOP as a national party.

As a dimocrat, I am feeling froggie, and am well prepared to play you bet your life with the GOP. Cheer up, even if the democrats lose a few net seats, they will still be alive and well after 11/2010.

The other guide we have is US history, after the great depression of 1929, FDR swept into office on a message of hope and change. And even if FDR failed to redeem that pledge for more than one 4 year terms, the American people still remembered that it was Hoover and the GOP that broke it in the first place.

Still want to play you bet your life OCguy? I will read my tea leaves and you can read yours.
