Meh... conspiracy huh? Just make a list of pros and cons:
US Keeps Control
*power
*ticks off the rest of the world who want access
-->others develop their own networks (IIRC I read that in a story somewhere)
-->interoperability becomes an issue

US Works with the world
*unified internet is kept intact
*we can easily continue to outsource programmers to india

I'd think you'd have an easier time making an argument for corporate interests being served here rather than this grandiose scheme to imprison every American.

China has next to zero reason to censor America's internet access, and would have a hard time pushing that idea through the U.N. or other international body that would be in charge of managing it. The only reason China cares at all about censorship is so that the CCP can keep social unrest in china at stable levels so that they don't get the boot.

Since when has the U.N. been unfairly hostile or unfriendly to the US? The idea that the US is the only country in the world that is free is antiquated, nationalistic, hot air.

If anything the world should share in the overhead of managing the internet seeing as the world uses it.
