I got one of those Gateway 6400 servers and want to get a 2nd CPU to throw in there.
The CPU they sent is a CD0 stepping, and from my understanding, CB0 and CC0 stepping P3's are iffy for SMP with a CD0 because the CD0 uses a different core voltage.
I finally tracked down a vendor online that's local to me and that may allow walk-in business, and was wondering if it's possible to identify the stepping or the S-spec of a retail boxed Intel CPU without having to open it up and physically see the CPU?
Just in case they don't have any CD0 OEM CPUs, I don't want to waste a trip over there, and the price difference between OEM and Retail is less than $10, so I could go either way.
