Is P4 1.8A as overclockable as P4 1.6A?

I don't mind spending an extra $25 for the 1.8A over the 1.6A.

I just don't know if it overclocks well OR if I can get higher speeds with the 1.8GHz chip.

Board will probably be an EPOX 4G4A+ w/512MB of PC2700 RAM made by samsung (original)

I haven't decided yet about the videocard, probably a VisionTek/LeadTek Ti4200 w/128MB RAM . (the leadtek is suppose to do better in O/C and 2D, right?)

Mine hits 2.4 easily. I haven't tried higher because I want to keep my AGP/PCI in spec.

It's sad to see a classic chip go away so soon,if it wasnt for the 1.6a i might still be using an AMD system.

The 1.6A seems to overclock better percentage-wise, but the 1.8A would have a higher top end, due to the higher multiplier. End performance would however be similar, due to the 1.6A's higher FSB.
Your call, personally I'd go with the 1.8A.

Try the CPU database at

overclockers.com. Average 1.6A overclocked speed is 2427 MHz, or a 52% increase. Average overclocked 1.8A speed is 2490, or a 38% increase. But the 1.8A is only slightly more expensive and may become cheaper now that the 1.6As are being discontinued. The 1.8A on average reaches a higher core frequency, and since it has an 18x multiplier instead of a 16x multiplier, you will not have to jack up the frequency of your front side bus as much. Conclusion: get the 1.8A. Mine's at 2520 now on an Asus board that's not known for its overclocking potential
