Is Palin aiming for 2012?

Does she really care about the outcome of this election? Would she rather wait for 2012?

I mean, she is carrying the party all by herself. McCain is just out of juice, now. It is clear that the party ultimately wants her, more than McCain, to lead the country. They are more enthusiastic towards her

She knows that, unless McCain pulls a tricky trick on Obama, they ain't gonna win this election, especially not with a crumbling economy.

What troubles me about her is that she really hides her game pretty well.

But the debate?s most telling passage arrived when Biden welled up in recounting his days as a single father after his first wife and one of his children were killed in a car crash. Palin?s perky response ? she immediately started selling McCain as a ?consummate maverick? again ? was as emotionally disconnected as Michael Dukakis?s notoriously cerebral answer to the hypothetical 1988 debate question about his wife being ?raped and murdered.? If, as some feel, Obama is cool, Palin is ice cold. She didn?t even acknowledge Biden?s devastating personal history.

I get a laugh out of this, just saw the same thing alluded to on Meet the Press. Palin does not have the talent to be a national candidate. This is why she is being ridiculed so much now, because she does not belong on the national stage. She has done enough for most (but not all) Republican partisans to defend her with the talking points, but put her up there on her own against Romney, Huckabee, and the like and she is eaten alive.

She is a freaking retard. I don't think anyone expects her to run for president. You are just joking, right?

As a Democrat, I'm all FOR them nominating her first on the ticket in 2012. Barack can concentrate on the country and have his re-election campaign be an afterthought.

I have a feeling that McCain barely even knew Palin prior to selecting her as VP candidate. What an obviously cheap move on the Republican party - and now they're going to pay for it.

This is one of the reasons I will not be voting Republican this year (I am one). The whole party needs reset. We had our chance as both houses and President were the majority for quite awhile, and we totally blew it.

The sad thing is, had we stopped at Afghanistan, the Republican party would still be in power now and making a lot of progress.

The funny thing is, if she spent the next 4 years learning about politics at the presidential level ect ect, enough to get by, she could make a serious run in 2012. Her charisma with the average voter outshines Obama, but her stupidity is her handicap.

I sure as hell hope not!! AFAIC, Sarah Palin needs to shrivel back into the woodwork after her team is defeated in November. We'll all be better off if/when she quietly retreats back to Alaskan politics where her dunce cap apparently blends into the local landscape just fine...

I like my national-level candidates to at least appear intelligent... it's the facade I personally require to continue living in, and defending, this country.

If Palin was a male with the exact same background, this thread wouldn't even exist.

And because of that fact.....it shouldn't exist. Such is the sad state of GOP politics today.

I hope so. If her supporters think the "liberal media" has been tough on her, they should wait and see what the other Republicans seeking the nomination in 2012 do.

I think if she goes back home after this election and just works her way up the political ladder while gaining knowledge on the national issues, Palin can become a legitimate choice.

it's super early, but I think the 2012 GOP primary will be Crist v Jindal v Stanford (all of whom had to have turned McCain down for the VP slot figuring that he'd lose this year and didn't want their future prospects)

If the Collective IQ of Americans is > 50, she won't have a chance in Hell. I suspect she'll also be turfed in Alaska after this showing. She'll be lucky to get her Mayor job back.

That would have been one of the sagest bits of advice Bush could have ever conceivably followed and been a winner.

Her debate performance seemed more for saving herself than helping McCain. Plus she won't make any appearances in any unscripted events. Keep her image (somewhat) intact and spend the next 4 years boning up on all the those mavericky policy thingies so she sounds like she has a clue come '12, either as VP or off in the sidelines.

Was Palin even aiming for the GOP VP spot for 2008? I though McCain just made an impulse decision to choose her and just to try and get Hillary's supporters...

How could she be aiming for the top spot on the 2012 GOP ticket?

She does not have the intellectual chops to be a national candidate.

While she appeals to a certain class of rural evangelical voter, that group is not the future of the party. She is the ultimate cynical choice.

You don't need to be such an ass. And why would the smart folks from the red states drop their jobs and businesses to go live off welfare and medicaid?

you clearly have never looked at the history of what Alaska looks for in its politicians as long as she keeps the Alaskan welfare state going, she'll probably keep getting elected.

If the McCain Palin ticket loses come November, McCain is political toast, because he will be far too old to run come 2012. Palin is a total wildcard IMHO. She may not even last as Alaska governor if troopergate findings are very negative.

Palin clearly needed more than a mere two months to get up to speed on national issues, and now she looks more like damaged goods. But if she can add Congresswoman or Senator to her resume, four years can do much to remedy her inexperience and lose her hockey Mom Naivete. And if post 2008 is going to be the total GOP rebuilding year I think it will become, Palin can use her cheerleading skills to rally some of the GOP base around her, and if she can also become a genuine GOP idea person as well, she could again become credible as a GOP rising star.

if she were to take over the top of the ticket, the think obama would be competing for all 538 electoral votes and would have a good shot of winning them all.

Palin would be desperately hanging on to idaho and utah.

I don't think so. Once the voter knows what she is made of, she does not stand a chance. That's not what happened with Obama.

You could attribute this appeal to the fact that she's only a "hockey mom, maverick and Joe Sixpack.", but to fall for that is utter BS and I think that the American People can do better. If this is charisma, then I'm God.

She was probably as surprised as we were by the nomination, but now that she has the taste of national politics, I wouldn't be shocked to see her run in the future, but maybe not in 2012.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but I suspect she'll end up in the same black hole as Kathrine Harris did...
