I like my national-level candidates to at least appear intelligent... it's the facade I personally require to continue living in, and defending, this country.
Finally, the insight, the most candid post of your history here

I'd like to say this all is a bad joke on you but we must not underestimate the stupidity of voters who see a lipsticked pig as something more than a pig.

Seriously? What does Palin have outside of her 'hot librarian' looks? When she speaks impromptu she's clueless. When she's prepared and confident she comes across as phony. There's more to charisma than just looks and IMO her cutesy high school cheerleader wink-nod stuff is very unappealing in a public official.

I dont find her stupid, I find her inexperienced in dealing with national level BS issues.
That said I think she could get involved with fund raising. I dont think she is a candidate for 2012. It all depends on how Obama's first term goes. If it is a disaster they will nominate somebody worth nominating. If it is a breeze we will get a Bob Dole.

there is no red/blue america.

with a couple exceptions (and I certainly wouldn't miss Utah or Massachusetts) we're a purple country.

Shhh it will taint his simplistic view of the world.

I think you may be misunderestimating Bush voters. Besides, who else are they going to nominate, Romney? Like it or not, she's got a following and its not going to dissipate so easily.

it is only simple to simpletons such as yourself.

in reality, we are all too much a nation of two nations. the conservative social agenda has hijacked much of america and has taken over not quite half, but a third of the country.

it would solve a lot of our problems if we simply let them run their little kingdom in their own way - where evangelical beliefs can work hand in hand with government with all the influence they want it to have.

having two americas does not mean being enemies at all. it just means saving ourselves from each other.

Ha that is so funny. You really believe this country is just two nations? Based on what values? Economic? Social? Demographic? Religious?

Perhaps you need to realize and accept people have opinions differing from your own. And that is not a BAD thing in a democracy.

when Biden welled up in recounting his days as a single father after his first wife and one of his children were killed in a car crash.
With all due respect to the Biden family's tragedy, you can be sure the little episode in the debate was entirely rehearsed. Even Joe Biden, after his emotional pause, regrouped himself so immediately and perfectly that you can see he was acting.

I can't see Palin having much of a shot in 2012 - once you get pinned with the dunce label (deserved or not) in the public arena, it's hard to shake. Ask Dan Quayle. If Palin has future aspirations, she should go for the Senate next and spend a few years trying to smarten up her image. Otherwise, she's just going to be a punching bag for comedians.

In 2010 the seat of US Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will be up for grabs. Palin might want to challenge her for the Republican nomination. Murkowski is pro-abortion, while Palin is pro-life, so there could be ideological issues in play which could tip the election one way or the other.

Palin is a vapor head with all the depth of an oil slick on the highway to nowhere, which is where she's headed. She's had enough exposure that people now know how little substance she has behind her ability to spew canned talking points.

If Palin tries another run for national office, the only thing she could accomplish would be a one person employment project for Tina Fey.

Let her be governor for 6 years, express some level of knowledge and interest in national domestic and international policy, develop a record long enough to examine, hold at least one goddamn press conference, and maybe she'll be worth looking at as a VP nominee in 2012. But top of the ticket? No chance in hell, and nor should she be.

Agreed. There's no way Simple Sarah would get away with the issue dodging she did during the VP "debate" on a stage with a group of hungry Republican primary candidates and no protection from follow-up questions.

Governors in Alaska serve 8 year terms? Don't forget, Alaska recently the largest political rally in the history of the state: AGAINST Palin. Once she loses her governor's office, she's pretty much washed up as a politician.

(edit: not that she's necessarily done a bad job for her state. The issues in Alaska are often quite different than in the lower 48. i.e. the whole shooting wolves from a helicopter thing. to that decision; it's a necessary evil in places where wolves are becoming overpopulated. There is no other reasonable solution.)

all things said, 2012 is going to be a cake election for the "non-winning 08" party unless the "winning 08" candidate can pull our situation out of the rhubarb

I posted this in another thread, but it's funny so . . . here's a couple of sweet old grandmothers blogging their opinion of Palin using some choice words and their arguments for their opinion.

http://margaretandhelen.wordpr...bitch-there-i-said-it/

some excerpts

Look. I am going to say what everyone at CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC is thinking but is afraid to say. Governor Palin is a stupid, conniving bitch. And it?s not because she is a strong woman - I like strong women? worship them? It?s actually the opposite. She is a weak, pathetic woman who thinks big hair, winking, baby talk and self deprecation is somehow becoming of a woman who wants to lead the free world. My god, where is Margaret Thatcher when you need her!

And because they make so much money from the oil companies, the Alaskan government actually gives it citizens an annual dividend check (this year $3,200). Exactly what Governor wouldn?t be popular under those circumstances? No wonder they can afford to elect a governor who ony has an undergraduate degree in journalism and a few beauty pageant awards. By the way, when you got that journalism degree did they teach you that some journalists actually ask hard questions like what newpapers do you read?

She loves to talk about being a mother but the last time I checked, having your newborn on national TV at 11PM instead of in bed wasn?t considered ?good muthering?. Neither was making your child?s unexpected teen pregnancy the talk of the nation because you desperately wanted to be a politician in Washington DC - or isn?t that exactly what you said you didn?t want. From where I sit, it appears you would sell your soul for the position.

Oh and my favorite - my husband Todd (the first dude) and I sit around the kitchen table wondering about the cost of college like many of you? oh really. Your oldest son went from high school into the military. Your next oldest is pregnant with plans to be married to some hockey jock at age 17. Seems to me you?ve got lots of time before you have to worry about college tuition especially being college doesn?t seem to be a priority in your family.

Please take your ridiculous hair, your over lipstick-smacking mouth, your Lenscrafter look smarter glasses and your poorly fitted designer jackets back to Alaska. And when you get there, shove a piece of the pipeline up your considerable ass. I?ll be damned if we?ll put our children?s future in your hands.

I F'n hope not. I hope if McCain loses (and I think he will), she will disappear back up to Alaska forever.

I can see it now. Palin runs in 2012 and wins. After she wins, Jesus makes his second coming to save us all from her and the world ends.
