Pasta is healthy only if you just eat Pasta w/o anything else added. But normally pastas will have sauces, cheese, meat. All those are things loaded with fat, oils, cholesterol, so in the end, the pasta is really unhealthy.

Rice > pasta

White rice will lead to quick rises in insulin levels, similar to what plain sugar would do. Brown rice would be a better choice.

yeah but brown rice taste yucky

The most common brown rice found in grocery stores tastes yucky. But there is another brown rice I have had at Japanese restaurants that is awesome. I wish I knew what it was called though.

The glycemic index on pasta is lower for pastas, so it's not as bad for you as other things.

Ironically, fats don't make you fat(they clog up arteries), carbs make you fat so pasta(which are high in carbs) in excess will make you fat, so is rice for that matter.

We're about 37 miles SSE of Miami FL. I'm a good swimmer but not that good.

Say what? Taking in more calories than you expend makes you fat, not just carbs.

No single food is healthy by itself. Healthy eating means eating a balanced diet. Yes, this includes saturated fats and cholesterol. You need everything, but in moderation.

Well...actually bananas have every know nutrient and you could in theory survive exclusively on them.

I'm not sure what you mean by that? The macros for bananas are 4/91/5 (P/C/F).

what I meant was that fats do not convert into fat(as in body fat), carbs do.

And taking in more calories than you expend makes you gain weight, it does not have to make you fat, excess calories in protein = more weight in lean body mass, excess calories in carbs = more weight in fat, excess calories in fat = well you'd be dead if you keep that up.

That's assuming you are following a good, regular weight lifting program. Eating protien and sitting on your ass all day, or eating protein and doing 5000 miles of cardio isn't going to build any mass.

Bermuda is such a pretty place. I like the white roofs and pastel colors.

You're closer, but still not there completely.

Fat + processed carbs will rape physique. The insulin spike of the two together is higher than carbs alone. Additionally, the the high calorie density of fats makes it a deadly combo. This is the primary reason why many staple American foods encourage obesity in most people. Chips, fries, ice cream, etc.

However, fat alone or fat with protein can be a great tool for fat loss and muscle gain.

Fat isn't going to give you heart disease alone. It takes a combination of things:
1. Excess saturated fat for the liver to produce blood cholesterol.
2. Insufficient anti-inflammatory foods, such as omega 3 fats, fruits, veggies.

Dietary cholesterol is absolutely irrelevant. It's all about saturated fat and inflammation. And it gets even more complex than that. Saturated fats in bacon are pro-inflammatory. But saturated fats from coconut oil are anti-inflammatory.

For people that don't want to think about complex nutrition, just use common sense. If fat makes you fat, why then does the Atkins diet work so well? If low fat makes you lean, why then did America's obesity get so much worse when the FDA/media kept pushing low fat diets in the 80s and 90s? Do you really think that fats goes into your digestive system and go straight into your bloodstream, a system that has to have an exact pH among other things to prevent instant death?

You're right, but I didn't want to get too in depth about it, my statement was too simplistic and obviously the whole explanation is too complex and I didn't want to explain it. Was just pointing out that the OP(in saying that pasta doesn't make you fat) was incorrect.

A lot of good responses so far, pasta is not the healthiest food. It is made of essentially pure refined carbohydrate (white flour). I think it all comes down to what is on the pasta and the portion. It's like pizza, a couple slices of cheese is a lot healthier than half of a meat lovers pizza. A box of pasta (1 pound) has 1600 calories so you can easily put away 1200 calories in your pasta portion if you're not careful.
