Ironically, fats don't make you fat(they clog up arteries), carbs make you fat so pasta(which are high in carbs) in excess will make you fat, so is rice for that matter.
Say what? Taking in more calories than you expend makes you fat, not just carbs.
what I meant was that fats do not convert into fat(as in body fat), carbs do.
And taking in more calories than you expend makes you gain weight, it does not have to make you fat, excess calories in protein = more weight in lean body mass, excess calories in carbs = more weight in fat, excess calories in fat = well you'd be dead if you keep that up.
You're closer, but still not there completely.
Fat + processed carbs will rape physique. The insulin spike of the two together is higher than carbs alone. Additionally, the the high calorie density of fats makes it a deadly combo. This is the primary reason why many staple American foods encourage obesity in most people. Chips, fries, ice cream, etc.
However, fat alone or fat with protein can be a great tool for fat loss and muscle gain.
Fat isn't going to give you heart disease alone. It takes a combination of things:
1. Excess saturated fat for the liver to produce blood cholesterol.
2. Insufficient anti-inflammatory foods, such as omega 3 fats, fruits, veggies.
Dietary cholesterol is absolutely irrelevant. It's all about saturated fat and inflammation. And it gets even more complex than that. Saturated fats in bacon are pro-inflammatory. But saturated fats from coconut oil are anti-inflammatory.
For people that don't want to think about complex nutrition, just use common sense. If fat makes you fat, why then does the Atkins diet work so well? If low fat makes you lean, why then did America's obesity get so much worse when the FDA/media kept pushing low fat diets in the 80s and 90s? Do you really think that fats goes into your digestive system and go straight into your bloodstream, a system that has to have an exact pH among other things to prevent instant death?
