Is PCIE nVidia 6600 GT better then AGP 6600 GT?

I'm trying to decide to go with AGP or PCIE for the computer I will build. Are there or will there be any differences between the AGP and PCIE (Single Card) versions of the nVidea 6600 GT?

Thanks

Is this for a brand new pc or are you upgrading a new pc?

If you're upgrading and you have AGP, get the 6600GT AGP

If you're building a new one, get PCIE with a PCIE mobo (chaintect VNF4 is a good cheaper one)

Not to totally throw this thread off topic, but anyone have a link to a cheap chaintech NF4 board? Newegg has it for $135, wondering if thats about as low as it gets for now.

Its for a completly new computer I'm building. (don't have parts yet )

So if I get the chaintech board, and a 6600 GT PCIE card, can I expect that that would be alot better then a 6600 GT with the MSI Neo Platinum2 mobo?

Also, I see that the Gigabyte PCIE board (for 939 socet) has Firewire 1394b. is 1394b different then 1394? Does the Chaintech board have firewire on it? Like at least one firewire connection? I don't really want to take up a slot for a firewire card when so many mobo's come with it. Not to mention the sound card I will get eventually will take up two pci slots (hammerfall rme card) , and a modem for the other.

Do I even need a modem card or can you use a lan for dialup? Thanks.

6600gt AGP will perform the same as a 6600gt PCIE. The interface really doesn't make a difference in currently available video cards. However, if you're building a new system anyway you will probably want to consider PCIE for future upgradability.

Some of the 6600GT AGP's are clocked lower by around 100 mhz, though that is easily overclocked, the new XFX 6600GT's (the ones without the heatsink problem, the beautifully designed heatsink one) do not have the underclock. and run at full 1000 Mhz.

NVidia doesn't even make any native PCIe cards yet (last I heard), so the PCIe version is just an AGP card with a PCIe bridge. If anything, the AGP one would be faster if it had to texture swap.

Of course, that was a few months ago that I heard that all the 6800's were AGP-based whereas ATI was making native PCIe cards. Maybe the 6600 is different since it's newer.

Tostada: with the 6600 & 6200, it's the other way around...the AGP ones have a bridge.
Still, performance is exactly the same. Decide PCI-E vs. AGP based on future expansion capbility and price, not current performance.

Indeed the 6600's are different, they are native PCIe and it is the AGP cards that have the bridge chip (same bridge chip as on the 6800's AFAIK, just reversed so to speak).

you need a modem card for dial-up. firewire 1394b is the latest version of firewire, it's twice as fast (800 mbps) as the old one (400 mbps)

Because that?s the most ridiculous suggestion I?ve heard in that last 10 min on this board. It has nothing to do with the wiring. What possesses people to make such outlandish claims?

Amaroque, get a life and get over yourself kid.
