Is PCIe Still considered AGP?

I'm a bit confused, although I know the card I have mustbe PCIe

I bought a 6600gt over the weekend, from a somewhat established trader and he sold me the card as "AGP" Now When I got it today the front says 8x AGP, but on the bottom of the box it says System Requirements: 16x PCIe slot ????

8x on front?
16x on specs?

The box is unopened, affraid to open it to find a PCI card, rather keep it closed if I have to alter this transaction...

PCI-E and AGP are totally different.

I guess you don't own a mobo with the new PCI-E slot.

well, i havnt even opened the box yet... the mmodel umber on sticker matches the model number on website for the agp card, except teh website has one extra letter...

I don't want to open it and to see a PCIe I'd like to know if it's agp first..

Just to clarify I am the seller. The P/N on the box is PVT43AND. The P/N on XFX's webpage matches that. The PCI-E version is: PVT43GND

As I told my buyer (btbam), the card was unopened, in shrinkwrap. Which it still is, he hasn't opened it. My best guess is the box is the same box used for the PCI-E version. What I'd suggest doing is calling XFX w/ the S/N on the card (there's a cutout on the back of the box to see the S/N). I wouldn't sell a card misleading someone like that, let alone this card was intended for my PC before I decided to sell it (and I DO NOT have a PCI-E board).

Hopefully this is just a fluke on the box, I clearly remember PVT43AND (the AND part of the number specifically) before I sent it out.

Well keep me informed. I'm sure the label on the bottom was just mis-labeled. The box and P/N's seem to suggest it is indeed AGP.

WTF are you smoking? There's no such thing. There are a handful of AGP/PCIe motherboards, but no video cards that support both.

Not smoking, joking. Going by the Smilie.

We could really use such a card, though.

Everybody's deadpan online, and I've seen a lot of people really confused about PCIe/AGP already.

Use a frickin' emoticon if you're joking so people don't get confused.

I got an XFX from buy.com. The box indeed states that its a pci-express card. But if you open it up, it will be an AGP card. I'm guessing XFX just didn't have newly printed boxes available or something. So have no fear, open it up.

Well it wasn't clear to me and I also felt that a simple emoticon in the post would have helped. 14 post users, believe it or not, frequently make outlandish/incorrect claims all the time, so confusion like this is not unheard of.

Also, I think his reply was pretty rude and very condescending:

To the OP: if the box says "8X AGP" in big letters on the front then I would assume it is an AGP part, even if the writing on the bottom says otherwise. Especially if the part number was confirmed like the seller said he did. The AGP 6600GT's are a brand new parts so I wouldn't be surprised if they still had some mistakes like this printed on the boxes, which were obviously originally meant to be used for 6600GT PCI-e cards.

They're probably just using the same box. I'd assume the sticker in front supercedes anything else on the box, but apparently informed and official XFX is just a phone call away....

Open up the sucker to find out. The AGP version of the card has a slanted cooler and a cooler over the bridge chip.

I clearly see a big smiling smilie in the upper left hand corner of RichPLS's "hybrid" post.

Maybe I'm special? No, I can't be because others used the confused smilie in the same spot when responding.

Now back to your regularly scheduled ranting.

No I'm not mad, but I did use a mad smilie.

Jiffylube1024, the number of posts made here shouldn't really be used to judge a person's knowledge. We all were at post #1 here and elsewhere at some point.

Nobody said the number of posts made should be used to judge a person's knowledge.

What I said was that low-post count users have made erroneous claims in the past. I'm not trying to be smug or high and mighty about my or other users' post counts; I don't even pay attention to the number below my name (and I'm actually kinda shocked when I look at it), but what I was trying to say (with a bit of tongue in cheek) was that new users often come here because they are unsure of something or want information on something, and when they ask questions, they often don't know what they are talking about (or are incorrect in some way).

You look at the emoticon in the top left corner of posts to judge what the poster is thinking. Mathias and I prefer seeing sarcasm emoticons in the actual post... To each his own .

I tend to ignore those icons because they aren't reliable; you automatically get whatever the last person posted unless you actually go to the 'reply' window and specify a different one. You'll note my post also had the 'smiling' icon attached to it, because I used the Quick Reply window. And the next five posts after yours kept the 'angry' emoticon. Yet another annoying Fusetalk 'feature'.

Looking at it more closely, he did actually go and change it to 'smiling' in his post. However, SOP on these forums is to use emoticons in your post if you're joking. Admittedly, I read the post quickly and made a snap judgement partially based on the fact that RichPLS has only a handful of posts and just joined in the last two weeks. I agree that people should not be judged by their post count, but I have seen uninformed people ask about the existence of such 'hybrid' cards, and a newbie being very confused about AGP/PCIe is not unusual.

No hard feelings.
