<< Lets try this again. Music is to entertain. If people are entertained by trash, they are STILL ENTERTAINED. This is not mensa, this is entertainment, so the intelligence of the audience is irrelevant. >>
Your assumptions are incorrect. While some music may be entertainment, not all is. Music is frequently used to deliver a message (like RATM for example), to tell a story (such as The Wall) or to simply express oneself. Good music is like any other art form. Do you think Piccasso painted the Guernica to entertain people?
And ask yourself, would most rap fans like rap if it wasn't "hip"? Mostly likely not, and yes, I know people who listen to rap.
<< Music quality is in the ear of the beholder. You don't like rap, and I probably don't like whatever junk you listen to (I've noticed that people who bash rap never mention what junk they listen to, probably out of insecurity). You, MartyTheManiak, your opinion is not the final decision on what good music is, the audience's opinion is. >>
Lol, once again you make sweepting asumptions. If you knew anything about music theory, you'd know that you don't just randomly hit notes and make music. Therefore, music quality is only in the ear of the beholder to a certain extent.
And I am perfectly secure about the music I listen to, there was simply no need to tell you. If you want to know, I listen to rock (60s,70s, 90s and modern), classical and just a bit of trance every now and then.
<< You still haven't proven me wrong, you've simply stated that because you don't like it, it must be crap. >>
There's lots of stuff that I don't like, yet I don't bach either.
Take metal for example. I really don't like it, yet I don't go around saying how much it sucks, because it doesnt.
Rap is different, not only do I not like it, but it also sucks.
<< Highly unlikely. They are liked now, they have been for years, and will be for years. Just like the Beatles, one of those fads that died away in a couple years, right? >>
The beatles are no longer mainstream, like rap is now. They are a nieche, mostly because people who listened to them when they were young are still around.
