Supposedly the new keyboard keys have very little travel? Talk about form over function. :/

The 12" 2304x1440 is perfect in terms of Yosemite ergonomics. This is what we predicted.

Full size keyboard. Glad the reduced size keyboard rumour was bull, as many of as thought it would be.

USB C is fine, but would have preferred two ports, esp. since the charger uses one. I was only expecting one though.

Gold is good.

However, as mentioned in other threads, I will wait for Skylake (H.265 support in hardware), and to see just how good the screen is.
What are Intel rumor sites saying about Skylake? If it launches as part of a stacked calendar Q4 2015 line-up, I'll patiently wait.

If not, I'm overdue for an upgrade and probably need to make a move on a Broadwell MBP. Last I heard, Intel was denying Skylake would be delayed since they are now confident in their 14 nm node.

Screen is effectively 1152X720, single USB-C port... Not something I'd spend that kind of money on. That 80$ adapter should come with it at least.

Skylake 13" rMBP will be my next laptop.

This anorexic obsession is going to lose them more customers than it will gain them. I have zero issues with the thickness of my current MBA. I would not trade the ports I have now for the sake of some spec sheet bragging in the thickness column. Same thing with the iPhone 6. Ive pretty much said "F U, thinner is better, screw your battery life. You're using your phone too much" to address battery concerns with that device for the sake of thinness.

Air 2 suffered the same fate. A smidge thinner at the cost of battery life over the previous Air model that was already crazy thin.

Bleh. We're now going for pure ego.

It's definitely fashion over function at this point.

God damn it's pretty though.

The insides of the new Macbook looks like an Intel NUC + pricey Apple netbook shell.

I have a 6+ and the battery life is fine. Is it worse with the six?

It is a bit worse than the 6+ but I still consider the 6's battery life pretty good - certainly much better than the 5. That being said, I think the thin-ness of the 6 is kind of silly since it leaves the camera lens hanging out the back. I would prefer they had made it a bit thicker and added more battery to avoid that protrusion.

I think it's crap. Pointlessly thin, complete waste of time having the one port (really??), and the CPU lacks punch imo.

I hope this doesn't start a new trend and other companies also go with one port laptops. Let's not go back to netbooks.

Make the damn thing fatter, add in a better battery, and add in at least one more port. Geez

But...but...that would make it 0.04kg heavier. Someones pants may fall down.

Completely agree on the notebook side. On the tablet side, I'm actually hoping for less weight, personally I find even the Air 2 gets a bit awkward with one hand where as the weight of the Mini is about right.

Pointlessly thin

That's more or less what it really boils down to. In all seriousness, what are they going to release next year? I need tactile feedback, you know? And one of my annoyances with my current batch of home & work laptops is that I can't flip up the screen one-handed because it lifts the keyboard portion up with it due to the thinness & lightness (first world problems, I know, I know).

I would have been interested in this a year or two ago. I think it's great, but I'm currently having a love affair with my Chromebook. I have been EXTREMELY happy with it - surprisingly so, actually. I don't really know what I would do with a $1200 1.1ghz Macbook, to be honest...

It's thin - at the expense of everything else.
Hopefully this marks the furthest extent of Apple's thinness obsession.
Perhaps next year's Amazing New Feature will be TWO USB PORTS!!!! And in five years time there will be an incredible DIY Laptop in which the RAM and SSD are not welded into place...

Looks like the one port thing is a Broadwell limitation. They would have had to add another PCB to support a second type-c port. Skylake revision next year will fix that.

Thought it was 2 USB type c ports?

Either way, there is a dongle that converts that single type c port into 3 inputs: full size USB, video out, and type-c charging.... Could have integrated that dongle/chip into the 12" macbook to give you a type c port (charging+other?) + full size USB port (which would require the device to be thicker obviously)

Or it would have eaten into the available battery. They have a thin and light with 'lots' of ports (in comparison to the nuMB) laptop in the MBA. The nuMacBook is to the MacBook Air as the original MacBook Air was to the MacBook/Pro of its day. Limited, but thinner and lighter.

Do you have a source for that?

I'm waiting for Skylake anyway, but that would be another reason to wait.

I disagree.

Though I greatly prefer the Pro for its numerous additional features, I think the MacBook would make a great second machine. I'd never buy an Air.

$100 in Canada. Ouch. I guess the good news it allows you to charge and use USB 3 at the same time.

What about VGA?

EDIT:

They have one. Same adapter, but instead of HDMI, it's VGA. For the same price. So, I'm looking at spending $200 in adapters. Double ouch.

That's just assinine on Apples part!

They are discussing it in a couple of apple blog forums. Broadwell requires a separate chip for usb 3.1 support as it's not supported at CPU or chipset level. Skylake will bring 3.1 support via the chipset and Cannonlake will bring in full native support. If anything Cannonlake will really be the one to bring 3.1 ports galore without extra PCB.

This. I would much prefer this MacBook over an Air as a second option, but I'd never use it as a replacement for a Pro due to the additional features I use.

For people whining about the ports, this ain't 1995. File transfers, sync, and video are all things you can do wirelessly. I haven't used a USB stick since I discovered Dropbox.

And VGA? Really? You bought a $1300 Mac but you're still using granddad's CRT.
