Okay, I've got 128gb S6 and was debating over with my hubby whether to have screen protector or just leave the phone naked. Long story short, I was obliged to get one on Amazon. Just got the package,it comes in 3 packs. The application was relatively easy and smooth, no icky wet feeling and the result was fantastic, like it's not even there. In case you may ask, here's the screen protector

I'm satisfied with the results. However, this really bothers me. Hubby and me have different opinion with this. I'm okay having it bare since the S6 has corning gorilla glass 4 but hubby insists I need to have it so..

I use a case with a naked screen. My case has a shield that covers the glass when in-pocket. I've had my phone ~9 months, working outside in the dirt, and my screen is still flawless.

A screen cover is like slipcases on the couch. You make it somewhat crappy all the time to prevent the /possibility/ of damaging it in the future.

I live in Florida so I'm always getting sand in my pockets somehow, which scratches up bare screens. However, most screen protectors drive me nuts, so I just live with the minor scratches.

I dunno, I've got one on my phone and don't really notice it. Maybe gorilla glass 4 is amazing and impervious to scratches, but they basically always make that claim and I always see reports of scratched screens, or cracks.

With the S6's glass back (like my Z3), I'd probably be more interested in a Rhinoshield to prevent cracks. Though I will admit the abuse test videos I've seen are pretty impressive.

I took the screen protector off my Note 2 around six months ago. I sort of told myself if I messed the screen up it would be a good excuse to upgrade. I haven't been any more careful with the phone than I was before and the screen is still scratch free. I'm not sure I will ever bother with putting one on a phone again.

Never used one on at least 15 smartphones and the only ones that got scratched up badly was the Droid Razr and an iphone 5. Those were work phones so I didnt care about them at all and just tossed them in my knapsack all the time. The Razr had many deep sratches from keys and the ip5 got major dust in the camera lens and rendered it useless.

In my experience there is no way to avoid scratches without a screen protector no matter how careful you are. A lot of people will tell you they've been using their phone without a screen protector and the screen is still perfect but if you look closely enough you'll see some light scratches on the screen. Usually nothing bad enough that you'd notice it with the screen on but they'll be there.

After 1.5 years my screen has some scratches. But I've never once noticed them or been distracted by them while the screen is on. I suspect it could get a lot LOT worse before I would ever even notice them at all.

It really depends on how you us the device. Mine is always in a neoprene padded pouch with a belt loop. it is never exposed to sand or dirt.

I would use thin glass protectors front and back for that phone. At least for the first few months. I would be pissed if it gets scratched in less than 6 months or so.

Yeah me too, it's just like with a new car, when I first got my last one I was so paranoid about it getting dinged but after the first one I stopped caring so much. I was really careful with my note 4 when I first got it, but I've dropped it on pavement a couple times so the metal ring has some dings on it so I don't care anymore.

Exactly. Which is why if you are planning to sell the device down the road a screen protector is almost a must.

Personally I care less about resale, and less about scratches. I get a screen protector for a different reason- to take the impact on drops. Replacement LCDs are expensive, especailly since with most modern ones you have to buy a new digitizer too (that maybe doesn't work as good as the original). I couldn't stand to use a cracked phone for months on end like the sorority girls in my life but I am clumsy. With a glass screen protector when I drop it on its face the protector takes the impact and shatters instead of real screen.

They aren't perfect because sometimes they will shatter/crack/chip more often than the Gorilla Glass real screen would, but when the protectors are a tenth or less the cost of a replacement LCD I am happy to flip them out every couple of months. I can think of at least one drop since I got my M8 last year that would have destroyed the screen without that glass protector, and its probably more than one because I drop my phone from waist height on hard surfaces at least once a week.

I live in the Caribbean and I am never further away from the beach than 50 feet. I get onto the beach and go swimming very often and have had lots of sand in my pocket along with my phones. The only thing the sand did was get between the case of the phone and the phone itself and proceeded to scratch and damage that area.
Maybe I am just lucky. Anyway screen protectors suck!

I pulled the protector from the Otterbox. G2 display is too great to be marred by the ugly protector.

Maybe. I looked a good couple of minutes at mine with the screen off and I can't see any sign of a scratch. Maybe I have just been lucky. Then again, there isn't much sand to worry about around here.
