I will be traveling to CA this summer (3-4 days each way) and back. Car is in relatively good shape. Civic. Is it worth signing up for AAA?

I think it is. I've had AAA since 1992 and have nothing bad to say. You can get free maps from too I believe.

oh right! forgot about those. They will provide you with free "travel packs' from wherever you are going. They include maps...hotel and restaurant guides...and anything else you would need to get aroudn in the states you are visiting

I've gotten better discounts online for a lot of hotels and stuff that they offer (parents with AAA got a room for $60...i got the SAME EXACT room 2 doors down for $40). The good thing is they provide you with free map and trip routes, but really all that an be gotten online too. The other thing of towing, well unless your insurance already provides for it, is about the only thing that really might stand out

AAA Plus is the best, but you might need to be a regualr member for a year to get Plus.

Plus gets you 100 mile towing,vs to the nearest garage.

I have AAA+ for like 10 years or more now.Its worth it.

You'd be surprised what discounts you can get from AAA.

A number of movie theatres give discounts for it, lots of restaurants give a couple bucks off of meals... you don't have to be travelling to try and use it either.

You might seem like a dipsh!t when asking for a AAA discount to a place that doesn't give it, but if you use it when you can it will pay for itself and then some every year.

yes. while they take forever sometimes... if you are out in a remote area.. sure as hell better than no one. Granted.. that's assuming your phone works out there...

but yeah, we have AAA mainly for glasses discount.. 30% off at lenscrafters i think it is. We're a family of 5.. we all have glasses.

Is AAA some kind of secret society? How is it that you get discounts at all these places? If they make a profit, is it really beneficial to you?

Yes ... so worth it. You get discounts, roadside assistance, and with your membership you can use it anywhere in the world that has associate memberships (i.e. Canada, Australia, UK etc.)

very definitely. ever get locked out? run out of gas? need some travel books, maps, guides? Discounts on hotels, even upscale 4star ones? Discounts on car repairs (probably some limitations)? AAA has your back

That's horrible logic.

It's the same logic that says that if you pay car insurance and never get in an accident, you're spending money you never get back. One of my friends' Vanderbilt economics professor has only liability insurance on his luxury car, so I'd say it's reasonable logic.
