just a tip, but if everybody at work is upset at you for not using the tickets yourself you're going to have a hard time moving up and making more money.

First off, I'm technically a contractor for a large project that ends in 2 years. So I could care less about moving up in this company, I am going to stay put where I'm at. I am an IT Project Manager, life as a "IT PM For Hire" is a bit different then playing the "Political BS Perm Guy"

2nd off, no one in this echelon of management would give a rat's @$$ on something so petty. They are "upset" to my face to make conversation about it, and I think that's about as far as it goes.

baseball brings the talent out in droves.

Baseball sucks, it's so boring. The only way I would ever watch baseball is on ESPN highlights. I don't feel like wasting my time watching the batter take some practice swings, get into stance, stare for a few seconds then back out of the box. Or the pitcher waving off a billion pitches because he has a sandy vagoo. Baseball is Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

they didn't use to do that crap. baseball should crack down on it. bob gibson would have taken your head off if you'd have tried that crap on him.

Baseball also seems to be one of those "USA" sports, that no one else really cares about... But I guess it would be akin to someone not caring about football here in europe (soccer for you americans), which is somewhat rare, but doesnt really matter

Thats why there are so many sports in the first place... Too many different tastes

Nothing better than going out to a ballgame with family/friends. Or any sporting event (NHL/NFL/NCAA Football/basketball). Yes, something is wrong with you, check testosterone levels asap.

Watching people play a boring game for hours doesn't compensate for your low testosterone levels. Sounds like a personal problem.

Baseball is actually quite international. Outside of the US, it's also popular in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Probably almost as widespread as cricket. Of course nowhere near soccer/football in popularity.

American football has long since surpassed baseball in popularity in the US though. Baseball seems like more of a thing to keep sports fans placated during the summer while they wait for football to start again. It's a very slow and relaxing sport. It's best enjoyed at the same time as other things to distract you from how boring it is.

I don't like baseball and something is definitely wrong with me. I don't think the two are related though.

I hate live sporting events. Too many mouth breathers. I'd rather watch in on my HT and pause/rewind when I want. Beer is cheaper and colder. Food is better. And the bathroom is closer and cleaner.

Very true but it's still fun to get out every now and then and not be a hermit! Especially for playoffs the atmosphere is insane in every sport. The only bad thing is finding decent seats for a decent price but if it's once a year why not...

Normally I would say something is wrong with you, but since it's the Twins, I don't blame you.

This.

Actually, I think baseball is the major sport I like second-best. It has progress markers (the bases). It has good amounts of scoring. Teams usually get multiple scores each, but not like 100 points. It doesn't have excessive silly clocks. And personal fouls are not a "part of the game" ("hit by pitch" being pretty rare).

The only problem is its slowness, which is worse in the majors than the minors because whenever the teams switch, the team on defense (pitching) throws the ball around for several minutes. I imagine this is to provide time for commercial breaks on TV.

I wonder if they could speed it up with modern technology? Give the hitter a clock, say 15 seconds, to get into his stance. And give the pitcher a microphone in his glove to tell the catcher what he's throwing, rather than agreeing with the catcher's choice.

If you said you don't like baseball altogether, that's fine. But this is the stupidest asocial behavior I've ever heard.

I'll take live sporting event- cheering, high-fiving, watching the overwhelming stadium view right before your eyes, & amazing fun- over watching it on TV any day. Stay as a shut-in please.

Mouth breathers? The foremost and prime example of antisocial behavior is thinking you are above everyone else. It's also a good defense mechanism to protect yourself from realizing your social ineptitude ("I choose not to socialize", when in reality you just suck at it).

I just found out that there is a game in June where all season ticket holders get free beer for the entire game. I think that one I might just show up to!

Yup. After 5 minutes at my first Canucks game, watching on TV was never the same. It's kinda weird because with TV you always have cues as to what's happening, play beginning, Penalty Calls, etc, and at first it's awkward. Things go from relative silence where you can hear clearly the action on the ice, to a few oohs and ahs, applause to good plays, then the sudden uproar when a Goal is scored. There's just something extra invigorating about being connected with 1000's of others.

One advantage: It provides a commonality with co-workers if they like x sport. I have many superiors who I just BS with about sports and it's help get me some very good recommendations.

Summary: If you can talk sports with the bigwigs, that's bonus points for getting your foot in the door.

Conclusion: Go to Twins game with big wig and comment on Mauer's heel injury and how they need him back if they're going to win the division.

I had a couple of proposals on speeding up baseball.

1) Make umps call the high strike (letters on the uni). Use modern "K-Zone" technology to calculate what % of high strikes that umps called/didn't call. If a manager thinks his team got hosed, he can appeal after the game. If the ump didn't call enough high strikes he is penalized/fined/suspended.

Calling high strikes will have a huge impact on game speed.

2) Limit pickoff attempts to 3, but also limit how far a baserunner can lead off the bag. The number 3 includes stepping off the rubber. This will reduce pickoff attempts which really slow the game.

3) Limit a pitcher/catcher meeting to 1 per batter. In the playoffs it's irritating to see a meeting after every 2 pitches.

Seriously though, I don't mind the pace of the game. It could stand to be sped up a little bit, sure, but it doesn't really bother me. I think most casual fans just don't understand the little complexities to the chess-match that makes it so entertaining to me.

Baseball is boring to watch, however going to a game is fun I think ...basically a party. I only been to one Tigers game and had a good time, otherwise I never care to watch.
Yeah I would sell those things ..lol
