I think the wireless tools in sp2 are a LOT better. I haven't had a problem yet installing sp2 on any machines either.

Highly recommended. Bear in mind you only hear about the 'problems', people rarely post to say everything went fine. At this point most new PC's are shipping with it and it includes security changes that are worth getting on your box.

sp2 doesnt' really suck that bad, but i like SP1 better for some reason, probably because people bench on it.

The only reason why i went to SP2 is because of wireless and firewall. THey're a lot better.

Definitely worth it as long as you disable the bloated frills it comes with. I would also do it on a clean install.

Also many problems have to do with spyware and/or viruses that were on the users PC before updating. I have seen this happen alot when the user updated to SP2 and had problems it turned out they were filled with spyware and/or viruses that have gone unoticed until the update.

I elected to order the FREE CDROM with SP2 update on it so that I could handle the upgrade on several machines. All of the changes were flawless using the CD.
Microsoft's site has the order form.

I recently applied SP2 to a relatively old XP install that had SP1 applied and had no problems.

I wouldn't install it on a machine that has a BIOS date more than six months or so old, especially if you are running a recent-stepping P4 chip in it. I also wouldn't feel the need, if one already had an existing anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall solution, and didn't want to encounter the performance overhead of the software DEP that is present as part of the binaries in SP2, and cannot be disabled (Well, the overhead cannot, the exceptions resulting from a software-mode DEP exception probably can be.)
