Is the annual fee worth the American Express card?

Don't really need the card, but I hear their insurance and customer service is incredible. Aside from being a status symbol for some people, what is the point of having this card if I don't need any additional credit?

if you use it as your primary card yes the 100$? annual fee is worth it. +1 year warranty on everything, CS that will bend over backwards for you and their concierge service is 2nd to none.

if you already have other cards and are happy with them you may not find that useful

There are plenty of AMEX cards without an annual fee or a simple way to have the fee waived. I'm not sure if they provide the same benefits though.

The only reason to pay the annual fee is to impress people around the dinner table when you pick up the check.

are people actually impressed by a low end Amex? fucking everyone i know has a gold or plat card. the only difference is what rewards/points you get

now if you were throwing down a black card that might be another story. 5k annual fee would prob be a good conversation point

We just have a regular green card, no idea if the fee is worth it. We just use it to consolidate all of our spending and bills into one payment each month. Everything goes on the Amex and then the Amex is set to auto pay on the due date. Less crap to worry about for me. I guess it's cool that stuff like my Droid, etc has an extended warranty, but I've never had to use it.

I have a AMEX gold, a costco true earnings card, and a AMEX blue card.

The only card that I pay an annual fee on is the AMEX gold; and I never use it. But it has no limit, and you never know. I use the Costco True Earnings card exclusively (when I can), to maximize rewards. I on track to getting a $800 rebate this year.

Oh, and their customer service is second to none.

I have Amex Blue Cash (no fee). Gives +1 year on warranty and has the 90 day purchase protection. Just used it for a USB HDD that got yanked off a table and crashed. Money refunded to my card. Easy breezy.

that card seems nice since if you spend for than 6.5K a year, you get 5% back for gas and groceries.

A good Visa card will have no annual fee and the same +1 year warranty and 1-3 percent cash back.

I've heard Amex is good for people who do a lot of traveling, but I don't.

I'd spend the $100 on something else.

AFAIK, Visa Signature offers extended warranties, but you have to pay $40 for it.

Did we just get your credit card number?

Dood, I think you're right.

When I take pictures of my cards, I make a small invisible stand that goes behind the card. Then I place the card and stand into my little 2-tone white reflective photo setup. Then I get the lighting right so the reflection at the bottom of the image fades to white just gradually enough so that the edge of the digital image I create looks nice.

AmEx Blue card holder here as well. No fee, +1 year warranty, everything's been good.

I also have an AmEx Gold Delta card that I signed up for to get 50,000 miles in a promotion they were offering, but I'll cancel that before the free first year is up as I'm not going to pay the fee to have a second card.

A lot of places do not accept Amex, so I stick with Visa.

There is not a credit card in the world that would impress me if it were used to pay for dinner with me in attendance.
