Hello,

I grabbed this Psu https://www.deepcool.com/products/P...-ATX3.1-Modular-Power-Supply/2024/18962.shtml on sale for a 9600x/4070 build. I know it’s quiet and has more power than I need. It has a ten year warranty.

After buying it, I went looking for reviews and could only find one by Hardware Busters which noted a few cons including ‘OCP triggering points need tuning on the minor rail’

I’m a bit unsure if I’ve made a bad move or if it’s a decent power supply and I shouldn’t be concerned.

it’s still in a box and could trade it for a Be quiet Pure Power 12m 1000w but it’s a bit of a hassle.

Other options here are a bit limited or much more expensive.

Appreciate your thoughts

I clicked on the link but it just takes me to a verification code required screen.

overcurrent protection? is that going to be relevant on a desktop pc build that's vastly under the max load capacity for that unit?

It's a CWT built rig. It might be damned good...or it might be borderline junk. Channelwell builds both ends of the spectrum.

This bit was somewhat concerning:
Deepcool needs to fix this unit’s primary issue in the protection features section. The minor rails’ OCP triggering points are set sky-high, resulting in the death of my sample during the corresponding evaluation. There is no need for such OCP triggering points at 5V and 3.3V, and if you decide to offer such high amperage, you have to be sure that the VRMs can handle the load.
While most of us will never encounter such loads...just the fact that the problem exists indicates a potential problem to me.

Looking at the comparison graphs on the units efficiency and ripple:

It's not a horrible unit...especially for the price, but it's far from being a GOOD PSU. (my uneducated opinions)

Cheers. Decided I will go through the RMA process and get the Be Quiet which seems pretty decent
SuperFlower Leadex VII, Corsair, or Seasonic would be my choice.

here's a good reference for overall build quality and reliability:

Thanks. Superflower, Leadex and Seasonic aren’t available here (or at least not readily).

Corsair is an option that’s a bit more expensive. The RMe version on the shop website has a lot of negative feedback due to coil whine (I’d like something quiet).

The RMx 2021 is a potential option if I went for the 850w version which is plenty of power for my build

Computer power supplies aren’t “ sexy,” for the most part, they don’t “look cool,” but they’re the heart of your PC. A good one can last a decade…or more, a bad one might last for years…or it can die quickly…and potentially take some of your more expensive components with it.

True. I could get an open box Asus Rog Strix 1000w platinum for not too much more. High on the Tier List but the Hardware Busters review was less glowing (but still good)

Thanks again for all the advice. In the end I went for a Corsair Rmx shift 850w. Well reviewed, enough power and very quiet. Although I’m sure the Deep Cool would be fine I’m happy I swapped
