Is the Galaxy S3-S4 notorious for its faulty micro usb port?

Been hearing a lot about this, and was wondering if anyone here can chime in on that.

How is your galaxy s3/s4 doing?

Any issues with it so far?

My S4's been doing just fine. I've tripped over the USB cord a few times too. Wife's old S3 has survived its long, drop/kick/pull filled life just fine too, no USB issues at all. Poor poor phone.

My S3's port is fine. No connection issues, and far sturdier than the one used on Moto phones I've had.

The microUSB plug and port doesn't inspire confidence, but I haven't had problems with my Galaxy S4. The port is easily replaced should it go bad, so I'm not worried.

My S3 would charge intermittently. Bought the connector on Ebay for $3 and replace it myself. Took about 15 minutes.

Make sure you use genuine Samsung cables. They fit tighter than regular generic micro USB cables.

You can buy extra genuine samsung cables (or at least, genuine knockoffs) on ebay for under $5.

pretty much everyone around me is using a galaxy s3/4/note 2 and no one's had usb issues

I did have an issue with my S4 where it refused to recognize the connection and charge altogether for about a day. It was charging when I plugged it directly into a PC USB (with the same cord). Odd.

Everything cleared up about a day or two later, no issues since.

My brother has an S4, he says he's never had an issue. I had an S3 and Note 2 and never had issues with them, if anything I'd say the port felt more secure on Samsung devices.

As much as we deride a non-standard format like the Lightning connector, I hate having to try to plug in my phone in the dark (since my wife generally sleeps before me). Her iPhone is way easier (obviously) to plug in.

It's worse since my Note 2 and Nexus 4 have the opposite orientation to my Nexus 7. I sometimes think I must be crushing/breaking the connector every time I guess wrong.

It happened to my brother on his S3. It started out having issues detecting the connection and within a period of a couple weeks quit detecting any cables at all and wouldn't charge. In helping him troubleshoot it I came across a lot of people with similar problems, but it's not something to raise the alarms about. Some people complaining on the internet when millions were sold isn't anything to be concerned over. You just have to buy smart. Either get something new with a warranty or buy used and accept the risks of having no warranty.

I've owned an S2, an S3, and two S4s. No microUSB port issues.

The only phone I had with micro usb issues was my Nexus One waaay back in the day. My Galaxy Nexus is still working fine after 2 years and tripping on the USB hard the other week.

No issues here, people just love to hate on this phone for one silly reason to the next. I've heard it all at this point. Saw some YouTube review where the reviewer was raging that there was millisecond lag from one screen to the next, come on really?

I never thought wireless charging was that useful, but I picked up a charger for my Lumia, and holy hell, never going back to wired. Charges fast, too.

The one on my GS2 went bad. Replacing it was straightforward, but the replacement board I got had a bad antennae (the antennae and micro usb port are on the same board) so I had to cut off that half, cut the old one in half, and put the old antennae with the new port. Pretty ghetto, but works OK now.
