I was taking picture with the Iphone 6 and was moving around and there were little to no motion/lens blur.

It was amazing

While the Note 4 have blur even with the slightest of movement.

The iPhone "auto" mode is better than the Note 4 - mostly b/c of the constant/fast focus. The Note 4 has a Sports mode which gets closer to it and I do wish was the default mode.

The S6 has the same constant/fast focus - so hopefully this auto mode software trickles down to older handsets as it's iphone good IMO.

As far as IQ, I think the Note 4 gets better still shots in daylight and low light - though the difference isn't much in low light. As my wife has the iPhone 6 (not the Plus), I find my low light pictures are generally better. However if both phones are steadied against something, the iPhone 6 can get close or even better photos in low light (though the difference is pretty slight). In normal hand-held usage, the OIS definitely helps in the Note 4. Obviously the 6 Plus will be better in low light than the normal 6.

The iPhone 6's camera is outdated with no OIS and just average daylight photos quality.

If you want the best camera phone, get the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge, iPhone 6 Plus or LG G4.

The worst part about the iPhone 6/6 Plus is that they have atrociously poor audio recording quality.

Well said. The Note 4 takes awesome pictures with more detail when you zoom in or if you are printing larger pictures. It is not as good or as fast if you just point and shoot.

iPhone 6 Plus really is a no brainer camera. Just point and shoot and you get very good pictures. It is much better than the regular iPhone 6.

if you guys are so damn concerned about photo quality then get a real camera.

Why would you take on a completely different platform just to get slightly better crap pictures? Thats ridiculous.

Because no one likes to carry a DSLR around all day long, not even as a tourist anymore and the best pictures are spare of the moment, there is no time for DSLR

Yes, shorty, people actually do just that.

And the pictures aren't crap, you haven't been paying attention.

Probably cause most people don't care about professional grade type photos in general. They just want something convenient that takes decent pics. That is where smart phones come in. Everytually they will replace point and shoot cameras completely i think, maybe not literally replace in quality, but kill the market for them.

THIS. So much this. I'm an Android guy and it incredibly frustrating taking pictures with any kind of movement. My old iPhone 5 was took better shots of moving targets than my Note 4. Very disappointed in my Note 4. Sports Mode does indeed help somewhat, but it's still not great.

Yeah only the S6 has similar usability. One of the few things I'm looking forward to in the Note 5.

You say that like the cameras in phones aren't real cameras too. You don't need a zoom lens for most pics (and sure don't for selfies). Plus one device and being able to upload and manage the pic right there on it has benefits. Honestly the real question is why have we not been getting better cameras in smartphones. We've had a lull of just very gradual improvements for years. Android companies should be almost embarrassed that they're not absolutely demolishing Apple's phones since they now often have twice the resolution to play with (and often times have had OIS and other things that should benefit their cameras over the iPhones). Plus they could very easily differentiate from Apple (I've been waiting for an Android OEM to make a first party clamshell that includes lenses, diffused and multiple LEDs with options or maybe xenon flash, battery, and maybe something like a mic port for power users).

There's only so good that a smartphone camera can be, there just isn't the physical space to make them as good as a good dedicated camera.

Also I disagree about your point about the zoom. If all you are taking are selfies then fair enough (although IMHO you shouldn't be allowed access to a camera or, indeed, unescorted access to the outdoors in that case). A zoom is essential in a lot of photos and really helpful in nearly all.

I'm reminded of an argument I had with a man who insisted that smartphones were completely unacceptable for photos. Literally, there was no compromise for him: either you bring your DSLR/mirrorless camera with you everywhere, or you don't take pictures. He'd probably also tell you that you should never drive unless you can afford a BMW, because you surely can't enjoy driving in anything cheaper.

Of course, we know those claims are silly. The whole point of a smartphone camera is that you can take photos at those moments when a dedicated camera would be inconvenient or socially awkward. And we know that the quality is often good enough on modern smartphones that a DSLR wouldn't always help. Do you really need an APS-C sensor for a selfie or a food photo?

To touch on the OP's question: the Note 4 is probably the first Samsung phone to have good quality all around, but I do think it suffers from Samsung's longstanding problems handling motion, even with OIS. The iPhone 6 doesn't have the resolution and low light performance, but it seems more trustworthy to me.

Now the GS6 is another story -- it's more like the iPhone in its photographic reliability, and it has a higher resolution. Apple may have to up its game... not necessarily to 16 megapixels, but a sharper picture and the kind of quality that Samsung can't replicate yet.

Having had both phones they both take good photos, the iphone I never found to be as great as people claim it to be personally. Takes pretty bad photos at night and a lot of the shots I took with it looked like they had really aggressive noise reduction on them.

I haven't had many problems with blurry shots on my note 4, it's happened a couple times to me but it's far less common than people in this thread are making it out to be. In lower light though I've gotten way better photos with my note 4, can't say I've had much of a problem with it at all there.

For the people with the Note 4's and saying that the "Sport Mode" makes the continuous autofocus work better, is there a way to make "Sport Mode" the default so when I start the camera app its already in "Sport Mode"? Thanks.

Disagree. I've been using a fixed length lens on a Nikon V1 for regular and underwater photos and haven't felt a huge need for zoom capability. In fact, especially for the underwater photos, it forced me to get closer to the subject and IMO I got better photos than I would have had I been able to zoom.

I do agree that smartphone pics can only look so good. Night shots in particular are pretty bad on cell phones.

I find it depends on conditions- my Note 4 camera vs. my wife's iPhone 6.

Outdoors, in good light- I think my Note 4 surpasses the iPhone. At least to my eye (and hers) my phone takes the better pictures. (granted crap compared to a good DSLR- but for quick pics of the kids and such, it's a case of what's realistic vs. never was gonna whip out a DSLR for that picture anyway, so whatever).

Indoors, in bad light- no freakin' constest. The iPhone 6 blows the doors off my Note 4. I've found that to be the case with every Note since the 2. Indoors, it just takes these wretched shit pictures that look to me like a watercolor filter has been applied. The noise level gets to be eye-stabbing. Meanwhile the iP6's indoor shots are much nicer. I was hoping the N4 would be a big step up from the N3 in this area, but really it's maybe the difference of a bit more turd-polish.

Underwaters a fairly unusual example given that things get murky at a distance so naturally a long zoom isn't going to be much good.

A lot of the time just getting closer isn't an option.

Comparing the Note 4 to the iPhone 6/6+ isn't really fair to the iPhone. Perhaps compare the G3 to the iPhone.
