now that i finally have the dough to upgrade from northwood via the asrock dual, it seems I have missed the opteron craze. Do you think the inflated prices will drop with the next shipment? or did i miss the boat completely?

How long was it from the time you placed your order until you actually received it? Onsale is currently listing them out of stock. Did you order your opty recently?

They were shady. I ordered the 27th when it said in stock. Checked back a few days later and my order was backordered... weird... and contact had been made by them. I called to cancel and no one picked up. Wrote 2 emails (second of which was nasty) to cancel my order. Finally I was refunded. Then last friday I got shipping confirmation. Earlier today they finally charged me. To sum it up, I don't know why I'm recommending them. But if you're willing to go through a messed up process like that you might save a couple bucks.

Yeah ive sent 2 emails to them to have them cancel my backorder on the opteron 146, no response yet.... But ya they do definitely have the best price around for a 146. Well, besides flickerdown anyways. If they happen to not cancel my backorder, I wouldnt mind a 146 for $165 total anyways. I look at it as a win win situation either way, although they definitely have the worst tech support of any online vendor ive ever ordered from lol... Its probably some guys garage.

Just keep waiting and checking the RTPE. I "missed" the right time to buy my 144 like four times, only to finally get lucky and check availability at the right time. Now I have a 1.8ghz/1meg chip that will likely OC great for $148 shipped. Works for me. (ordered from mwave)

There are still plenty 144/146s available under $200. Which A64 chips are under $200? I can't think of anything other than 3000+ and 3200+.

Wow, Onsale.com. I remember way back to when they were the premier auction site for refurbished computers. I even purchased one from an Onsale auction back in 1998. Then it died and uBid took over as the premier computer auction site. now uBid is waning.

careful of some of these vendors. again, it's a pain in the arse to get 144/146s from AMD these days ESPECIALLY since they're requiring mainboards to show up on the same PO....

ronnie, thanks for the flickerdown advice. though it looks like it will take a while to get on queue, and even longer to get through it, it seems about the best bet right now. oh, and thanks for doing it dave!

just ordered a 144 CAB2E 0545 FPMW and an unknown pre-ordered 146 from Tankguy's (they should be in tomorrow).

Everything popping up in stock is FPMW's...... hopefully the 146 is the same.

Not bad for $335 shipped w/ a tube of AS5. These are good "bang for the buck" CPU's!! Most everyone is getting to 2.7Ghz with minimal voltage bumps.

Bought mine about 10 days ago (waiting on my 7800GT to actually use it, GT is in TN right now). Honestly, I thought it was $148, but I don't have the invoice at hand, so I might be off by $8.

I bought my A64 3200+ for $150 in town grant it was OEM but not bad to walk in and walk out with although I do get a resellers discount and then some so it helps
