Is the retail fan enough?

Since I don't plan to overclock, will the retail fan that comes with a boxed AthlonXP 1600+ be enough, even if I have two hard drives and two optical drives and mid to high end AGP video card?

The retail HS/F is enough, but I would highly recomend using an aftermarket HS.

i'll just back what jcmkk said. It's enough but it's just a lot safer to use an aftermarket HS.

does the xp have differnt HS and fan now?? cause from what i remember, the stock fan is really small, and the stock HS is not very good quality either.../

The retail AthlonXPs seem to use the coolermaster DP5-6H11 or DP5-6I11A (I can't tell a difference, but one of the two), which works just fine, and aren't extremely small. In fact, they are excellent for being retail HSFs. However, you can never be too safe (unless you're like me, cooling a duron that can be replaced for $40 , so isn't worth a $20 HSF), so you may want to get a better one.

retail has 3 years warranty, you don't need to worry about if the retail fan is not good as aftermarket HSF. If it fails and makes the cpu burned, just call for rma.

I totally agree with Kingofcomputer. There is a three year warranty. All this complete Bull turd about being "extra" safe is garbage. IF you are not overclocking the HSF that came with the package will work wonderfully for you. Don't listen to all these spend crazy, mod happy freaks. Save your hard earned money for something "better" that you'lll use more than a couple of extra empty clock cycles.

Of course if you start getting into OC'ing, that's a whole different story...
